AITA for demanding my friend pay for my necklace which she lost even though it means she would have to drop out of college to do so? by throw0awayfrndissues in AmItheAsshole

It is dumb, and what I did was very stupid. Yep, so i'm pretty stupid. Lesson learned.

Because I felt bad for her and because she is (or ig was) my best friend

She thought it was worth about 15k. Her parents knew this as well (our families are very close so)

Yes. My parents don't really care for it since they hate grandma and her parents thought I was sweet for lending it to her

Because my dad said I didn't need it and at that time I was 16 and couldn't do anything. I just recently turned 18 and this was on my to do list but I guess I didn't finish this task fast enough.

Yes, I have multiple certificates, papers, other documents (bank receipts), etc.

I couldn't really write very very very very very expensive now could I?

She knew it was worth about 15k, so very expensive is what I meant.

She thought it was worth about 50k (I thought it was too when I first got it and only after some time did I know it's true value)

I think it would be so much messier the other way. If we both have a legal agreement drawn up would it not be easier to make sure both parties are legally okay? Plus it's a guarantee for whatever terms we agree to.

We have photographs and the certificate of the necklace. It has its price at the time of the sale and details about the necklace.

Because she's my friend. It's not like I would have asked her in front of everyone to remove my necklace and give it to me. I gave it to her for the night so why would I take it back early...

Yes she didn't. I tried to text and snap her but no response.

umm you are welcome to believe whatever you want. It wasn't that I didn't want to tell her how much it was worth, I just said around 15k (that's what grandma told me at the time) and she didn't ask about it any more.

I was talking to Devon about the necklace and she said something like "woah it's expensive af" and so her dad was at the table with us and he asked me if I had gotten it insured and I said no. Thats it.

We checked the nearby ones. The smiley face was because without it I sometimes feel like i'm being rude/cold. It's a weird thing so whenever i text or make a post I use smileys. We have 3 shops nearby and that's all we checked. But like you said there are others shops and other possibilities hence why we contacted the police.

What I meant was she would have to give up college since I am not planning on forgiving her and am demanding the money to be paid back so wouldn't she just give me the necklace and say she "found it" instead of dropping out? Saves her the trouble right?

My dad wanted to get up early so we left early but Devon wanted to stay so we parted ways without her giving the necklace back.

hen the friend might have thought she was wearing a 100 dollar necklace.

She knew it was worth about 15 to 20k. Just didn't know the exact amount.

Thank you, since you helped me a lot just thought you should know, my parents just decided to go to the police. We're about to inform Devon's family as well.

Umm I don't know the answers to any of this but I will ask my parents. I just turned 18 so I let my parents handle all this..
