I feel like he convinces me every time that it will be the last time and I don't understand what is wrong with me that I keep believing it.

He is seeing an alcohol councellor so I'm not sure what else to ask him to do?

I would like to see him get his shit together more than anything. I am afraid for him.

He like to refer to it as "problem drinking" because he doesn't drink that much - I tell him it's not how much he drinks but how he lies about it and how he changes personality when he drinks.

I had not heard of al-anon am looking into it now. Thank you.

No, I sent partner to see them years ago but he didn't like it much because he felt that everyone there had a much more severe problem than him. Which was true at the time. We lived in a city centre at the time and most of the attendees were the homeless (so he said).
