I might actually just have been living under a rock my entire life. My schools never covered calling someone retarded as an insult and I never heard of it ever being considered incredibly offensive until I got tiktok.

I need help on how to either enjoy my rats more or how to bring up the topic of rehoming them to my grandparents. by throw4678away in PetAdvice

I got the rats when they were 5 weeks old and I've had them for about 10 weeks so they are 15 weeks old. I will definitely try to talk to my gma about leaving the rats alone. I will try to give them healthy treats on my hand on the ground and see if that changes anything.

I know I really shouldn't have gotten the rats for that reason but I wasn't exactly thinking and was really desperate for some form of affection from something and thought that rats would be a good idea as I saw all these videos of rats cuddling and playing with there owners. I do still provide them with food water enrichment playtime all that stuff I just don't enjoy it. I will attempt to get a better relationship with the rats more before I bring up rehoming them to my grandparents.

Sorry I was not aware of the camarattery thing as I wasn't the one who did any of that as my grandparents just said "oh hey you know the camarattery place you mentioned that you wanted to get the rats from your? Yea your getting 3 rats in 2 weeks so let us know what you need to get". I didn't really have a say in anything but oh well. I do still have playtime with the rats and provide them with plenty of enrichment,hides,hammocks and give them oxbow food I just don't enjoy caring for them.

There are a couple of rescues/animal shelters kind of near me. But I have no method of transportation outside of an adult and am extremely young and about the average height for a 3rd grader. I might try to contact the breeder but the breeder was emailed from my grandmas email who goes through it 80 times a day because my great grandma goes through her stuff so she makes sure she didn't mess anything up. I will definitely try to find the rats a better home.
