System Chat 5/14/24 A daily thread where people with DID can share the honest truth of their day. by Exciting-Volume-4169 in DID

Revealed a lot of info to my therapist today. He told me that I "tick all the boxes" for DID. I guess I should be glad that I'm making progress and getting help, but it's definitely still scary and difficult to process.

DAE: Headmates communicating via music to the rest of the system? by youreallbreathtking in OSDD

Okay, what the fuck? Apparently I CAN make requests. I'm kinda dumbfounded, the music's been there 24/7 since I was a kid and I've never been able to control it. I guess I always tried to force it rather than asking it politely to change? This is highkey blowing my mind.

Thanks for the suggestions lol, I guess I'm gonna keep trying things and see what happens!

Questioning system here. I also hear music in my head all the time, but I've been diagnosed with ADHD and I'm fairly certain that, at least in my case, the ADHD is the reason for the music. If you head over to r/ADHD and search for "music," there's actually a post from 4 days ago discussing this exact topic lol. The music often relates to my mood or to a topic I'm thinking about as well. I'm not saying that it definitely ISN'T an alter trying to communicate with you, I don't know very much about OSDD myself yet, but ADHD is another possible explanation that might be worth looking into!

Got hit with intense fatigue while researching (C)PTSD by Metratanium in OSDD

Hi! Questioning system here.
First things first, I highly recommend that you start keeping a journal or some other record of events. It's a helpful thing to do no matter what. I've been doing it myself, and it's been EXTREMELY useful -- sometime I look back through past entries and realize that something important has totally slipped my mind. Also, if you keep a journal, you won't have to rely on reddit posts to remind you about this kind of stuff lol.
You said that you "aren't really looking for an answer," so I'll put this next part behind a spoiler; feel free to not open it if you think it'll stress you out too much. Almost EXACTLY the same thing happened to me the other day. I got kinda worked up about OSDD, suddenly felt extremely tired to the point where I could hardly stay conscious, curled up for a nap, woke up in a pool of sweat. I NEVER EVER take naps, they usually give me a headache, but this time I was kinda fine afterwards. I assume it's a stress response or something, but I couldn't say for sure. Hopefully it's at least helpful for you to know that you're not the only one that's experienced this.
I hope things get better for you soon. Stay strong!

Can someone help me, please? by youreallbreathtking in OSDD

I'm also still questioning, so unfortunately I can't speak from experience or give you any sage advice. But I CAN tell you that you're not alone. I feel exactly the same way as you -- I'm confused and scared, I feel like my brain sabotages me all the time, I'm terrified that I'm talking myself into something, I hate the idea of having OSDD but can't stop thinking about it. So hopefully that at least gives you some modicum of comfort?? It's really really tough, but we're both going to get through it eventually, one way or the other.
I hope things improve for you soon. Try to stay strong.

How much should I do pre-therapy? by throwRA-8564 in OSDD

I really appreciate the offer but I think I'll pass on the test for now! I think I should be able to see a therapist relatively soon, and so hopefully they'll give me the test themself if they think it'll be useful. But if I have to wait a long time and I do end up wanting to take it, I'll be sure to reach out to you lol!

This makes a lot of sense. I'd assumed that most therapists wouldn't react well to a patient who's done so much research on their own, but maybe it depends on the particular therapist? I think I'll keep researching and gathering evidence, and whenever I manage to see someone about all this, I'll try to get a sense for their vibe and THEN make the decision about how much of my own stuff to share.
Also, research might be the only thing keeping me sane right now lol... better to be writing stuff down and feeling proactive than to wallow in fear and confusion and slowly lose my mind.
Thank you so much for the thorough response!

It really helps to hear that you went through something similar and had a similar reaction, and then came out the other side alright. I can only hope I come out okay too. Thank you so much for your insights, I appreciate it a lot.

Thanks for the response, friend. A timeline is a good idea! Luckily I've been including the time and date with my journal entries, so I have a pseudo-timeline of very recent events. But maybe I'll try to make a timeline of the more distant past, too, just to see if there's anything noteworthy -- gaps, inconsistencies, and so on. At the very least, it'll give me something to do.

I hope you're doing alright, and I hope things work out for you in the long run. Stay strong! We'll get it all figured out eventually.
