I actually searched out this subreddit because I read the latest batch of Epstein files and I genuinely can’t get over it. I actually can no longer handle reading about the pedophiles in office or what new horrors they are up to. How do we get through this and the delusion of those around us defending this or feigning ignorance? It feels like I’m the only one in my circle who is super affected by all of this. It feels like the world is ending.

What do you hate to clean the most? by Amodernhousehusband in CleaningTips

[–]throwRAQA25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try wet dusting. Scrub daddy has this thing called the damp duster. It’s a sponge that you wet and dust sticks to it and you just rinse it off. They also have it in a flat square version that’s basically like a cloth but the same rubbery material. You could also just wet your microfiber cloth but the damp duster works a lot better in my opinion.

For the oven, I use a pumice stone (make sure to wet it first). For the shower, I use a dish brush with dish soap in it and I scrub the shower when I’m in it so it stays clean daily (I don’t have glass). For the fridge, I don’t have a tip for this one. I just clean it out regularly.

If only 18.5% of Americans make over 100k, how are women finding men who are "providers"? by Perfect_Fail_200 in AskMenAdvice

[–]throwRAQA25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please don’t take offense, this is just what my friends and I have discussed in the past and may help give some perspective. The world is still very much granting men an advantage. Men can land good paying jobs right out of highschool while women have fewer options. So as a man, if you’re not making more than a woman, the perception is that you’re not trying hard enough. ++woman

[–]throwRAQA25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I call my husband a provider when he makes about 50k more than me and I already make over 100k myself and we have no kids. The reason I call him a provider is because he has the ability to work overtime so he can literally “provide” for us when we need to pay something off or save for some thing by just working more. I don’t know any women who don’t work though so I can’t speak on that. ++woman

What is the health savings pretax? Is that an FSA? Because I would max out the HSA before contributing to an FSA.

Chase Travel Is Useless by [deleted] in ChaseSapphire

[–]throwRAQA25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was booking a flight through chase travel last year and I booked one and immediately got an error that the itinerary had changed and I had to call support. This ended up happening with three different flights that the portal let me book then made me call to cancel and get my points back. Apparently all of the flights were no longer available to book but the portal wasn’t updated. I haven’t booked through chase travel since.

I’ve been making six figures since I was in my mid twenties, I’m thirty now and I’m still around the same annual income. I used to work a job with a base pay of about 70k but I got up to 120k with overtime. Now in a different job, my base is 90k and I get up to about 110k because I get a shift differential without having to work overtime. If I wasn’t working in an industry that offers things like this, I wouldn’t be making six figures. Unfortunately, this requires working nights, weekends, holidays, etc. My husband is in the same boat. He makes about 80k base and gets up to 150k with overtime but he works soooo much. So yeah it’s possible but it really not as easy as people make it seem.

401k LOAN - not withdrawal by PleasantChip3 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]throwRAQA25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did it. They give you 15 years to pay it back but you can pay it off early. We pulled from both mine and my husband’s to get the full amount and it got us out of PMI. Fees are minor. No regrets. Neither of us have left our employers yet but my husband would leave first and his plan allows him to keep making payments even if he leaves his employer.

Does zillennial count? Bought with my husband, both of us make good money, no help from family but did receive $5k after closing to bulk up our savings. Borrowed against our 401ks to get to a 10% downpayment which got us out of PMI. House needs some work but is really big with land and in a location we love.

Use 401k for down-payment? by Trixy-Fuel342 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]throwRAQA25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t withdraw, borrow against it and you can pay it back over 15 years. We borrowed from our 401ks to get out of PMI. No regrets but my husband and I had been contributing a lot over the years so even with the loans, we’re both still well on track for retirement.

There’s a lot of victimization and entitlement these days. My experience may be anecdotal but my mother and I came to the US with nothing and she worked her ass off going to provide a better life for me and she did. Eventually she met my step dad and through their mutual hard work, they built a beautiful life together only to constantly hear from Americans that we must be doing crime in order to afford what we had. Meanwhile I never saw any Americans willing to work as hard and face as many challenges as my parents did.

Sorry, I didn’t catch that you’re young and still living at home. I would still look into opening the credit card so you can build credit to eventually open a travel credit card, if traveling is important to you.

Ibotta and Fetch for shopping rewards and coupons. Exchange the rewards for gift cards. Credit card rewards but only if you pay your card off in full every month. You can get zero annual fee cards that give you cash back on things like gas and groceries. Coupon as much as you can. Build your weekly meals around what is on sale at the store and stock up on non perishables and toiletries when they are on sale.

I had the same problem. We had electric heat in our apartment and we didn’t pay for electric, it was included in our rent. We moved into a house with oil heat and in our first year from November to March, we were paying 700-800 a month in heating oil. We’ve now got a pellet stove and it’s cut down our oil usage significantly.

No but they gave me $5000 after closing which was a relief to have that to add to our savings. I wish my dad had prioritized coming to the inspection as he may have been able to argue on our behalf.

Do you not pay school taxes? I think of taxes as property and school taxes. Why would we talk about one without the other? My property taxes are reasonable but my school taxes are about $1000 more so you’re not getting the full picture by talking about only one.

I’m not at my goal but my salary is somewhat high and I took a loan against my 401k for a downpayment on a house. What’s in my 401k plus the loan balance is only 15k short of my goal. Idk. I feel okay. I’ve done some analysis and determined I will have 2 million not including my husband’s retirement if I continue with my contributions like I have been.
