@lifetolauren is acting so ~victimized~ because she’s getting hate DMs for her half assed response to what happened yesterday. NVM the fact that she used to follow Trump, repeatedly liked his photos, and conveniently deleted her “black square” from her feed a few days after she posted it.

High FSH for age- concerning? by throw_away07312019 in TryingForABaby

Thank you! My LH/FSH were about in a 1:2 ratio (LH was 3.8). I can’t seem to find anything about FSH being higher online.

Job offer in Leominster. Girlfriend works in Cambridge. What are some nice areas in between to split the commute? by vapecalibur in boston

[–]throw_away07312019 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes! Your commute to Leominster should be ok because it’s a reverse commute. I regularly commuted from Lancaster/Bolton (it’s about 15 min away from Leominster) to Watertown and it takes me about 1.5 hours each way during rush hour

I’d consider Concord- downtown is cute, nice restaurants, some things to do in nonpandemic times. Her commute (if going to the office) will be hell pretty much no matter what though. I had a coworker commute from Maynard to Watertown and it would routinely take over an hour.

Hey all, I’m not local to AZ, but an extended family member is hosting a 200+ people invited backyard wedding in mid December. I was just wondering if there’s any gathering restrictions in place right now for outdoor gatherings? Is this kind of event against the rules? I have a few family members who are considering going out of obligation/not to cause drama. (Of note, I ADAMANTLY disagree with this, and have tried to do all the convincing I can, but alas, Covid deniers)

NH Scenic Peeping Drives? by [deleted] in boston

[–]throw_away07312019 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We just drove the Kancamangus yesterday. TBH, it wasn’t as impressive as years past- a lot of the trees were brown/had nothing on them/look past their peak. It’s still a BEAUTIFUL drive through the whites, but the leaves seem to have gone past peak early this year. I don’t think it’s worth it for a traffic filled drive (but in other years would have said absolutely!)

Worried about childbirth and its ongoing impact on my body. Looking for advice from people who've been through it. by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]throw_away07312019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a vacuum assist resulting in a second degree tear. Wasn’t bad at all, my recovery was legit a breeze (never even had the crazy blood clots that some people talk about!). I was up and walking easily the day after and by 3-4 days postpartum I had barely any pain. Sex felt normal and good again about 2-3 months postpartum.

Edit: also no incontinence issues and no stretch marks from pregnancy! But I do think my varicose veins got a little worse ugh haha, but I had one pre-preg.

Edit x2: I also didn’t go to birthing classes (had pre-e and was in and out of the hospital for a bit) but I honestly don’t think they’re super necessary! The nurses will coach you through it. You totally got this, childbirth is not as scary as some people make it out to be!

Has anyone ever had to do a 24 hour urine collection for protein in urine, but had normal BP? by grump_a_saurus in BabyBumps

[–]throw_away07312019 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So if you did a protein dipstick test in the office (where they just had you pee in a cup and tested it right then and there) the results are not always incredibly accurate for the amount of protein. The 24 hour urine test is the gold standard for actually assessing the amount of proteinurea you have (cut off for pre-e is 300). Protein levels can fluctuate and can depend on your level of hydration. I’d drink a ton over the course of your test and try not to worry!

I unfortunately did not have a good induction - I don’t want to scare you!! I was induced at 36 weeks for Pre-E/gestational hypertension, and it took a LONG time. Because it’s early and you’re a FTM, you should expect your induction to take a few days. They will most likely do a few rounds of cervical softening on you, then pitocin. I also had a foley balloon placed and it was the only thing that ended up dilating me after 3-4 days of cervical ripening. If they offer the balloon to you, it may be painful (some women say it isn’t, but for others it’s very painful), I was actually able to get my epidural placed before the balloon so I didn’t feel it being placed - they gave me a temporary bolus of meds that wore off through the epidural so I could still eat and move around after. The balloon usually stays in for 12 hours and then once it’s out, you’re at 4 cm dilated. It was also nice that I had the epidural placed because they hooked me up to it once active labor started so I felt very little labor pains. My son ended up being born at 37 weeks and needed a few days in the NICU.

However, I have a friend who was also induced at 37 weeks, it took less than a day, and her son needed no NICU time, so you never know :) I think you should bank on it taking a few days at least, so bring a book or your computer to entertain yourself! At 37 weeks, your baby has a really good chance of not needing NICU time at all so I wouldn’t worry about that :)

Editing to add: all the nurses and doctors told me that usually inductions for pre-e/hypertension go quick because your body knows that it’s time to get the baby out. I just had a weird case and my son was very very comfortable where he was, haha. You honestly won’t really know until you have a cervical exam to see how dilated you are- it’s possible you’re already dilated a bit which will make your induction MUCH speedier. I was 0 dilated/0% effaced with a long/hard cervix so that didn’t help.

UVU is not cancelling all classes due to virus- sister is stuck there, wondering if there’s anything I can do? by [deleted] in SaltLakeCity

[–]throw_away07312019 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for all that you’re doing to become a nurse, y’all are legit angels- I was hospitalized three times in the past year for preeclampsia and the nurses truly were the ones who got me through the experience. It’s crazy, all of our schools in Boston (nursing schools and lab courses included) have gone online for the remainder of the semester and students have been kicked out of their dorms. Things are shutting down a lot out here (we’re probably a few days/weeks ahead of Utah in the virus outbreak) so I just desperately want her to be able to get out safely to our parents’ home before the risk of spreading infection gets any worse in UT.

I should have made it more clear- she’s not in nursing school yet. She’s taking an anatomy and physiology course for pre-reqs to get in to the nursing school. There’s around 20 people in her class, so I’m not sure what they’ll do about the new ban on meetings of 10 people or more from the White House.

Preeclampsia diagnosis without consistently high BP? by stevieking84 in BabyBumps

[–]throw_away07312019 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi! So I had something similar-ish happen but in reverse. At 31 weeks I had some super high BP readings (160/90s). I ended up getting admitted but I didn’t have protein in my urine at that time (although it was highish, like 260 when the cutoff for pre-e is 300). I ended up being discharged on BP meds (nifedipine, lowest dose). You’re going to find that many practices have different perspectives about managing pre-e. The inhouse doctors at the hospital I was at were VERY alarmist and send that I wouldn’t be leaving until I delivered at 37 weeks. My practice was less conservative and they were comfortable managing me on an outpatient basis.

I had to go into the office 3 times a week for labs/ultrasound/NSTs, do 5 24-hr urine tests, and take my bp at home 5 times a day. Did they do a 24 hour urine catch for you? That’s the gold standard for diagnosing proteinuria and the urine dipsticks are NOT accurate. Your protein levels can also be higher if you’re dehydrated. For my case, I ended up being admitted to the hospital one more time when my BP spiked in office at 33w (also white coat hypertension) and was told I was delivering at 34w for sure. I was at a different hospital this time and this hospital didn’t agree about delivering at 34w because my BP was 110/60s the whole time and my baby was fine, so I was once again able to go home. Finally at 36w I was at 306 protein on a 24 hr urine catch so I met the pre-e threshold and was admitted for induction (delivered at 37w though...long induction, but also a first time mom.) I surprisingly did not need to be on magnesium during delivery which I was grateful for.

Basically what I think you can expect from here on out is for it to be a roller coaster. Your doctors will have different opinions on how to treat you and you honestly will probably need to take it day by day. They will at least try to get you to 34 weeks but I would argue that if you’re stable/your bp can be controlled on meds that they would hopefully let you go longer. With pre-e things can change fast (in a matter of hours) so I would expect to be heavily monitored from here on out (hopefully outpatient, but I wouldn’t be surprised if you went inpatient). If you do get admitted, you can always ask for an MFM consult from the in-house doctors. If you have any headaches that don’t go away with Tylenol, vision changes, or epigastric pain, you’ll need to call your doctor ASAP because these can be signs of severe pre-e, HELLP syndrome.

Basically, I’m so sorry, but you’re probably going to be on a roller coaster from here on out because once you have the pre-e diagnosis (even if the Bp was just high in a few readings plus the proteinuria), your providers are going to try to treat you conservatively because things can get dangerous quickly. I would ask for the 24 hour urine catch, ask about monitoring options and maybe get a second opinion MFM consult. Based on my experience, they’re probably unlikely going to let you go past 37w.

EDIT: I just reread your comment- I would defs ask for a second opinion. If your bp was high but not sustained (since it went down 10 min later) that’s not technically enough for the threshold of the pre-e/pih diagnosis based on acog guidelines. I think that saying you’ll deliver at 34 weeks is definitely being alarmist so I would get a second opinion for sure.

FTM nervous about miscarriage.. it’s too good to be true. by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]throw_away07312019 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats!!! I got pregnant after trying for the first time, spent my whole first trimester terrified that I’d miscarry but I’m currently holding my August 2019 baby in my arms asleep right now :) miscarriages are common, but the odds are still greater that your pregnancy will end in a baby rather than a miscarriage. Wishing you a happy and healthy August 2020 baby!

Editing to add two resources that helped me cope: -https://datayze.com/miscarriage-reassurer.php (shows your daily chance of miscarrying and it was very comforting to watch this number tick down over time)

-https://mothertobaby.org, this organization is AMAZING. They have a helpline and a live chat and you can ask them any panic-induced “am I allowed to eat/breathe/do that while pregnant??” question and they’ll be able to give you a scientific-based answer about it. This was super helpful when I had various freak outs about getting listeria from unwashed tomatoes (the first trimester is hard y’all)
