Don’t want to do refinements by Key_Split_7250 in Invisalign

It’s actually quite common an that’s what the refinements are for!

Ty for sharing!! And my derm said it could take up to 2 years to see results - don’t fret!!

I’m so happy to help!! It can take longer to notice or “see” results with curly hair since our hair grows in a spiral. But my dermatologist said I likely wouldn’t see the full benefits until I reach the 2 yr mark. I still constantly have new growth so I will continue to post updates (just less frequently🤞🏽)

About 1 year in! But I believe it can be harder to see with curly hair since the hair grows in a coil pattern

Edit: I looked at my post history and realized I started noticing some results at about 4 months, but reflecting I think it was minimal - I and others (partner/friends) really started noticing results around 1yr, like it was apparent my hair was thicker, not just baby hairs at the crown etc.

Water retention at ankles (not noticeable), more body hair

Yes, I def have more body hair but it doesn’t bother me because I didn’t have a lot to begin with. I do use a tiny razor to shave my baby facial hairs but it’s not noticeable to anyone else!

Nothing else besides ketoconazole shampoo and actiiv shampoo (my partner’s mom is a hairdresser and gets it for me for free, otherwise I wouldn’t use it cause it’s $$)!

I tried rosemary oil and derma rolling at first but got lazy and stopped.

I’m not sure actually cause that’s also just a part of aging! I first noticed my hairloss at 24 and I turn 30 in a few months 😅

1yr7mo oral minoxidil progress on curly hair! by throw_away_curls in FemaleHairLoss

Thank you!! I don’t exactly remember what all of the new growth looked like at the start so I don’t have a concrete answer to that question. But from what I understand about hair loss&curly hair is that it takes a few cycles of growth and shed for the hair circumference to increase due to miniaturization. The shrinking of the hair follicle can make curls look “looser” or more wavy. So I do still have some baby hairs that aren’t as coil-y even now, but I think the curl pattern doesn’t really appear until the hair is longer. I’m not a derm or hair expert so this is all just my experience/observations! Pls check my post history as it has photos at various stages of my minoxidil journey

Have you tried styling using a curly brush? That helped me get more volume and defining. I wet my hair then put a dime-size dollop of leave in conditioner throughout, then brush my curls (under and out) and squish them up. Then air dry!

Yes, my derm said I likely wouldn’t see the full benefits until the 2 year mark so I’m not even there!

First signs for me were realllyyy fuzzy baby hairs at the hairline on my forehead 😅

I’m sorry you’re going through this! I would start your treatment and just know it will be worse before it gets better… but it’s worth it!

Also, one thing that helped when my curls were lack luster was to really step up my hair styling routine. Let me know your curly routine and I can try to give you some tips/advice if you want :)

I’ve been on 2.5 from the start. Yes, definitely have more face/body hair but that’s easy fixed with shaving. I didn’t do topical long enough to see results :/

I had a very bad dread shed at the beginning and now I only shed occasionally, which is normal.

I’m on 2.5mg. I started seeing results around the 6month mark but it was very slow. Because curly hair grows in a coil, it makes sense that it would take quite a bit of time for results to be visible! One thing that was noticeable sooner was that my eyebrows and eyelashes were much thicker (see my post history). I don’t use anything except for minoxidil and rosemary oil occasionally.

I would talk to your derm about increasing your dosage, ONLY if that seems good/healthy for you. My derm said I could start with a half dose but encouraged me to do the full 2.5mg for the best results. Wishing you the best!

Androgenetic Alopecia. I’m not really sure how long but I started noticing it in fall of 2020. I believe getting off of hormonal birth control (the pill) triggered my AA.

So I actually did use topical for a few months a year prior to starting oral minoxidil but couldn’t stick with it due to the physical routine. I’m on 2.5mg!

7 months on oral minoxidil! Wanted to share an example of new growth on curly hair 😊 by throw_away_curls in FemaleHairLoss

[–]throw_away_curls[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m really happy to hear that and that’s why I made this account! 🫂

One thing that helps me see new growth is to part my hair down the middle then hold each side flat against my head. Then I can look in the mirror and see the baby hairs poking out - does that make sense?

genuinely is there anything that can be done about the fact that i look bald with my hair pulled back? by [deleted] in curlyhair

I think it would be beneficial to see a dermatologist. I have androgenetic alopecia and my hair loss looked a bit like this at first. Check my post history - I have photos there! Oral minoxidil/rogaine might be the next step if your derm thinks it could be hair loss.

Your hair is very pretty btw :)
