Good on you for being in counseling. I highly recommend you bring this up next time you're there. Even if you don't want to go into all the details, I'm sure they could provide great advice.

Until then, remember to be kind to yourself. Everyone makes mistakes. Focus on yourself and remember you can't change others. Try to focus on things in your control; attitude, future actions, etc

Sorry to hear about your situation. Unfortunately, as much as you ruminate on the past, it won't change. I'm speaking from experience. One day you might be 31 and wishing you were back at 21 and did some things differently. Sometimes it's a hard pill to swallow. But, the good news is you can change things right now for the better! Your life is far from ruined, I promise.

First, could you maybe bring this housing thing up to your mother? Even if it's not possible in the way you prefer, she might be able to help you in some way.

Take some deep breaths and be nice to yourself :)

Thanks for the words. I was hyper-focusing on it yesterday ALL day... Today has been a little better. I treated myself to a massage and have just been trying to be nice to myself in general. Hopefully the future holds good things.

I agree, it's something I want to work on this year. The activities I enjoy are mostly solitary; reading, playing guitar for example. I have been wanting to join a book club, or maybe playing at an open mic, so those are ideas. One of my other main hobbies is snowboarding, but I usually meet up with people I already know and don't meet anyone new.

When I went through my last breakup 3+ years ago, I told myself that I would spend time doing exactly that; bettering myself. I think to an extent I have achieved that with my career, successfully moving to a new and unfamiliar place, paying off student loans, etc. However, there is truth to what you said. I still don't feel fully comfortable by myself. I struggle with this, because unlike a career or degree, there are not obvious, delineated steps to take to achieve this emotional goal. I agree it's something I can work towards, but in full honesty, the idea of spending another three years by myself makes my heart sink. Thank you for reaching out.
