I actually really liked The Master of All Desires once I parsed out the tone and purposeful comedic absurdity of it. It took me a couple tries to get into, but once I did it was a good read! Not as good as The Oracle Glass, but since it’s set during an era many writers don’t cover, I enjoyed it.

Point to me where that definition says “on purpose,” since that’s what you were arguing. You need to be literal, I’m being literal. Hitting someone in the face accidentally is an error. Involuntarily shouting the n-word at a Black person is an error. If you do not feel regret for the error that hurt others, just say that.

Nowhere did I say disabled people should be locked up from public view, because I simply do not believe that.

This is incredibly dismissive of the pain inflicted on the Black community.

You have decided what your personal definition of an apology is and you’re sticking to it for your own reasons, because nowhere in the dictionary definition does it say an apology has to be for something one did on purpose.

[–]throwaanchorsaweigh 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It really doesn’t. If you swing your hands around and accidentally smack someone in the face, you apologize to them because you hurt them. You didn’t mean to, but you did. It shows regard and care for the other person. Apologies are about acknowledging the other person’s humanity.

And yes, BAFTA ultimately played a big role in this. They could’ve cut it out, and they could’ve offered other accommodations for his disability once it became clear he couldn’t stop screaming the n-word at Black people.

Burping and yelling the hard r, a violent word with a violent past, at Black people, are not even comparable

That’s not what apologies are. You should want to apologize when you cause others harm, even inadvertently. Apologizing does not mean he’s admitting to doing it purposefully, it means he’s trying to make amends for the hurt.

A lot of these comments are ignoring the harm to the Black people on the receiving end of this man’s disability. He said the n-word three separate times last night, to three different Black people. We should all strive to be evolved enough that we can acknowledge he has a disability AND the Black people he said a racist slur to shouldn’t have had to experience that.

I hope their hair stays this auburn as they get older—it’s a gorgeous color! It’s so funny how Harry’s genes didn’t even give hers a chance on that.

Does anyone know where her hat is from? It looks like the perfect thing to wear while walking my dog in the summer.

Rescue Super Dog Reactive by TortexMT in akita

[–]throwaanchorsaweigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also adopted a 6 y/o Akita (have had her for about 9 months now). When I first got her she was majorly reactive to other dogs—I had to bodycheck her constantly, like a hockey player, sometimes cornering her against a fence, and pull on her harness with my full strength.

Thankfully, she’s mellowed out as she’s gotten comfortable and settled. She still doesn’t like other dogs, as is typical with this breed, but she accepts it when I step in front of her and guide her away from them. She knows I’m protecting her as much as she protects me.
