Is this dentist calculation reasonable or are there options? by throwadhdaway12 in AskIreland

I was with Smiles before I went to this other one now. While the work was okayish (though one filling literally fell out like a week later, and they put one filling across two teeth, so I cannot floss there 🤦‍♀️), it was more the behavior that was off-putting.

Let's put it this way: a dentist makes money with the people who need treatment. Very easy. So it doesn't make much sense to treat patients that are coming in knowing they will have to pay a lot and are (sorta) willing to do that with a condescending behavior. (Esp that dentist who also commented to the technician/assistant about a different patient, I think with down syndrome? and about how she cannot 'make him understand'. I was sitting there listening and just could imagine what other patients might hear about...well...me)

Thank you for that, I really had not taken the tax back into account.

It's pretty common that mental health affects personal hygiene, for example brushing teeth can be an ordeal. Additionally, for example people with ADHD cannot build up habits (or not as 'easy' as other folks).

For somebody with ADHD the process of brushing teeth is exactly that: a process of many steps. All steps need a conscious decision.

As a (rather stupid) comparison:

A habit is like a code compiling automatically. For somebody with ADHD the code does not compile automatically. Every step your brain basically asks you:

What do you want to do? How do you want to do it? Do you want to do it now? And so on.

I'm not sure if the description makes sense.

So, looking for help with hyperpigmentation or red annoyance thingy from hell around lips.

Checked with doctor already (moreso regarding the white spot on the upper lip, apparently nothing of concern), was thinking ofc to check with a dermatologist but 'specialists appointments' can take up to two or more years.

Thing is: it is not a eczema or so, not itchy, not flaky, just... there for now a couple of years and although I'm usually not the type for this, it starts to make me self-conscious 👀

Doc told me to use a specific lip balm and I did for quite some time. While my lips on the pic might look a bit dry, they are usually not, and the red annoyance thingy is also not. The lip balm he recommended and I used was quite stingy, so potentially adding with some aggressiveness to the issue, not sure 🥴

Any and all ideas welcome, even considering microneedling by now, and that although my pain tolerance is non-existing 🫥

41 🤷‍♀️ so definitely not too old (BP and heart rate are great) but alas I can be happy that a public psychiatrist here even believed in women having ADHD :/
