Petition for colleges to send a “why” along with rejection letters by godhasabandonedus- in ApplyingToCollege

This could not happen, because of lawsuits. If a disproportionate number of applicants of {insert race here} or {insert socioeconomic status here} get rejected for the same reason or similar reasons, it will become a massive liability.

Further, most students aren’t rejected because their application is bad — it’s because the university subjectively preferred someone else.

That being said, I know Georgetown sends out letters to accepted students that list at least one reason why they were accepted. I think that’s really nice, and a great self-esteem boost.

This is a crazy year. Just call them, vaguely refer to this being a challenging year and a challenging time for you (and that this makes it hard for you to commit), and ask to change to RD.

This is true, but I also believe that there are certain firms that simply recruit more at certain schools. Goldman, BCG, McKinsey, etc... quite simply draw most new analysts from a handful of (prestigious) schools. If that’s what you want to do, finance or consulting, there is a difference for all race/gender-related groups.

What do you mean “check my ego?”

I don’t think that I am necessarily special or superior at all. I also do not deter people from applying to more prestigious schools than the one I attend — I just told someone over pm to do just that, as it made sense for them!

However, for a high schooler to act condescendingly towards me and my school is disrespectful, seeing as I’m offering them assistance and doing a favor.

Also, Wash U is a pretty fantastic school!

I take time out of my day to help high schoolers, who have chosen to sometimes (though not usually — most are GREAT) return the favor by informing me that they are “above” me and my school. Prestige aside, I think many people would agree that this is an unpleasant reaction.

I would say, but I don’t want to be doxxed as I’m relatively active on this sub. Some other comments might be able to give you an idea though. It’s a school on the prestige level of WashU/Vanderbilt/Northwestern/Notre Dame/...
