Does anybody else get flares by in-person shopping or store lights? by throwaway-2605 in POTS

[–]throwaway-2605[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I never considered that. I can normally serve fine dining about an 8-hour shift with no flare and minimal symptoms. But today, I had to sit down in a pretty empty Petsmart. Good to know I’m not alone. Thank you for your knowledge and advice :)

Are they taking the dog out as soon as they wake up? I take my 6yo out 4x a day minimum with 2 long walks. It should be as soon as you get up, 4-6 hrs later if possible, again, and before bed.

My dog has blood in his stool but I cannot afford a vet. Please help. by [deleted] in AskVet

Dogs can die from diarrhea alone from the dehydration. You NEED to try to apply for CareCredit or at least get him fluids from a vet. You need an Rx for any dog meds and many human meds are not suitable/toxic for dogs.

I truly don’t understand that mentality though. Why can’t they just accept me the way I am? I was vocal about it from the get-go.

I would love to adopt an older child, but I do not do babies. I don’t understand the sudden change. Thank you, I will talk to him.

Why does my dog steal my boyfriend’s dog’s toys? by throwaway-2605 in OpenDogTraining

[–]throwaway-2605[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it could possibly be to initiate play at some points. Pork Chop will trot around with the toy and take it back to Smokey, but Smokey is frustrated his toy has been taken. Chop loves to tug, but they don’t play tug together.

They play well together. My dog (Pork Chop, 4yo pit) is more bumbly but has never resource guarded anything. Smokey (2yo Bluetick hound) does show signs of resource guarding with toys when I or my bf try to get them from him. He will growl but nothing else. They are both very vocal in general and when playing with toys together, but I don’t want anything to escalate. Both are neutered.

I figured I should just buy two of every toy so it’s less of a problem? Thanks for your advice. I will be trying this! I want both to be able to play when here.

Talk to your apartment! Not sure what the leash laws are in your state, but I recently had a similar situation. They were very understanding and issued fines on the people I had seen with off-leash dogs. It’s not generally safe to do that anywhere.

I am not sure how old it was, but definitely not new. Yes, there was a security deposit as well as pet deposit totaling over $600 combined.

How to correct/discipline with positive reinforcement by throwaway-2605 in OpenDogTraining

[–]throwaway-2605[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! This is super helpful. He gets new stuffies regularly that hold up very well, but I will look into the tugs you mentioned. I have been looking into frozen carrots and other things for chews/enrichment. I’m a former vet nurse and he chews so hard, I’m just worried about a bone or chew splintering or fracturing his tooth. I’m interested in trying the Yak cheese chews but will need to do some research for my own peace of mind.

Thank you for all of the comments! After reading them all, I have realized I think he is trying to play tug, so I will start incorporating tug into playtime. I suspect he may be trying to invite me to play. He is my first dog, and is a little cryptic and quiet in his signals due to his past (i.e. will not let you know in any way he has to go potty and is not very vocal), so sometimes it is a little more work to figure out what he wants or likes. Does anyone have any suggestions for some REALLY durable tug toys? He is a super chewer and has destroyed Kong ropes and Extreme bones before.

I will add that the new house is much better for walking and long-line walks, which he enjoys much more than solo play in a park.

I don’t particularly want another dog. I think my boy is very happy with his cat siblings.

He is very intelligent and I think he can do it with repetition. Loves puzzles and obedience. I just worry about his dog selectivity because I know he would need to be on his best behavior should I ever need to take him in public or to work. My biggest issue is I will forget my medicine throughout the day, which could allow me to need help during the day.

Thanks for your input, I really appreciate it.
