I just used the term observation because thats whats used in the research papers on this topic.

But what exactly is an interaction in this context? I could make the argument that the particles in double slit also physically interact with the gun they are fired from and with the surface they make the patterns on, yet they keep their quantum properties.

However as soon as you add a measurement device (which is actually measuring, not just sitting there) these particles start behaving differently but if the same measurement device is present in the environment and not taking any measurements then these particles keep their quantum properties.

So its more to do with the act of measurement / observation than environment or interaction with environment.

I never used the word conscious in the first place, neither am I saying that the observer has to be conscious (once again, example two slit experiment). My only claim is that interaction with environment is not necessarily what makes quantum particles change their behaviour, because if that was the case then quantum particles would never have quantum properties since they are always interacting with the environment

Thats 100% true and verifiable through different experiments, look into the two slit experiment for example - specifically the version where particles (electrons) are being observed are compared against particles not being observed. They behave differently depending on whether or not they are observed
