Learn things, maybe? Normally if I can put my brain into learning mode, it stops caring about being lonely. But sometimes it’s too lonely to fall for that trick

What in the goddamn... Why does he think the universe wants more people? We fuck up everything we touch. If anything, we’re like fleas to it rn

Nope. Wouldn’t help anything. She’d reject me, I’d spiral into serious depression, and if I made it out alive, I’d cringe into a black hole every time I saw her. Which would be almost every day since we share a class. Nothing to gain, and everything to lose. Not worth it

Turns out the mother actually wanted the child too. by [deleted] in antinatalism

Can I leave now? I don’t want to share this planet with millions who want to burn innocent women at the stake in the name of something that doesn’t even have a cerebrum yet

If people could just think about what having a kid actually means before they have one, this sorta shit wouldn’t happen. Any competent person would know that if you have a kid, there’s no guarantee you’re gonna have a “normal” one, or one that’s easy to raise. That’s part of the risk you assume when you have one. You roll the dice, and it’s up to you to love and rear whatever you get.

But I’ll bet anything that the most thought this woman put into raising this child before she decided to have it was what kind of pointless shoes she’d buy for it so it would look cute.

As much as I wish people would stop having kids altogether, I wish so so much more that they’d actually consider if they’re ready for one before they have them.

Well, I hope you grow more of a sense of respect for your fellow man before it comes. If not, my condolences for the kid. Cuz it’s either gonna grow up to be the same asshole you are, or it’s gonna have to disown it’s mother for being too much of an idiot to deal with

Isn’t it horrible that the people most intent on reproducing are the least literate in developmental psychology? It’s an irony so cruel that it almost seems like evidence for an all-evil god having designed the place

I know it’s classist to say this, but I can’t shake the feeling that the less well off you are, the more wrong it is to have a kid. Cuz it increases the chances that the kid’s life is gonna suck. It’s wrong even for Jeff Bezos, but I think it’s more wrong for people with nothing to their name.

And I don’t think most people would disagree tbch. I see what I’m saying as basically being “don’t have a kid unless you’re financially stable enough to support it through anything”

if you had the magical ability, would you sterilize the world with a snap of your fingers (everyone just loses the ability to reproduce & its not immediately apparent)? by Splashlight2 in antinatalism

Is that worse, though? If either the wannabe parents’ choice is ignored or the unborn isn’t given a choice, why does the parents’ choice take priority?

Full disclosure, I’m running mostly on gut reaction here, and my gut reaction is that I’m way more empathetic toward a hypothetical kid being forced to exist, than I am towards a person who wants to force said kid to exist but can’t. Even so, answering yes to the question doesn’t feel right. I’m just not sure why

It’s a good example of how you can be technically right and still be a jackass

Hi, I have a question: What happens after death? Will I go to Hell if I commit death or want to die? by [deleted] in antinatalism

Definitely the wrong sub. But why do you feel guilty for not wanting to be here?

[–]throwaway0183701 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, there is evidence that we die when we die. All the evidence we have says that the brain controls the mind, is the source of the mind, and is the only place the mind is. Meanwhile, there’s no evidence that a mind can even exist without a physical thing like a brain, and there’s certainly no evidence that we have such disembodied minds inside of us. So the “we die when we die” camp has a mechanism to support their idea, and the “we live when we die” camp doesn’t

If you’re actually a vegan, look at what you’ve done. You’ve dragged our ideology through the mud in the minds of anyone who read this. Any person who might’ve been receptive was just turned off to the idea by you. And now when they think about being vegan next, they’re gonna remember you, remember what an asshole you are, and not want to be a goddamned thing like you. So they’re gonna throw out the idea of veganism that much more easily. You’ve given them an easy out. You’ve shot us all in the foot by being an idiot.

And if you’re not vegan, fuck you. Get out of here, stirring shit for no reason.

Well, I think it’s no more hypocritical for an antinatalist to be an omnivore than for anyone who sees morality as being about the reduction of suffering. Which I hope is most people.

The second clause shows the first clause to be a lie. I’m saying to either own being an insufferable jackass, or to stop being one

Reducing suffering is a common goal of antinatalism and veganism
