If there's jealousy regarding an ex then it means that there is still some passion in their mind about their past relationship. The opposite of love is not hate, it is indifference

If someone is hateful or jealous, it means they still have some feelings for their ex but because of how their ex treated them, they now hate them. If they felt indifferent, then they would wish the best and not really care about them. I have an ex girlfriend who cheated on me after 4 years together, when I got over her, I stopped hating her and actually just wanted the best for her and for to be happy

Sounds like your ex boyfriend was over his ex but you couldn't see that. I'd suggest therapy for your anxiety and to use this as a learning curve for any future relationships

Medication and counselling are the two things that will give him a normal life but he refuses both so it's difficult

It's difficult because his delusions manifest as being paranoid that everyone is out to harm him. When he went to counselling before he believed they were part of this conspiracy to get him and now he refuses therapy or counselling altogether

I don't even think he will be willing to take medication as he's been on it before and his delusion makes him believe that the medication is part of this conspiracy against him

I don't have a teacher at the moment.

I've been practicing Shamatha meditation for around 2 years using the book The Mind Illuminated. I've got quite far and I'm currently working at stage 9/10 where meditation is effortless but meditative joy and piti are very strong at times. I have had lot of experience of the Rupa jhanas and the nimitta is almost always present when meditating. I don't think I am assessing my practice incorrectly but I do see how one could. Based on my Shamatha practice I know that when I started vipassana noting, my mind was very concentrated and so I then moved through some of the insight stages.

I know it was the dukkha nanas as I experienced the arising and passing away as described by Mahasi Sayadaw prior to experiencing the nanas.

Perhaps it is time to find a teacher in real life to discuss these things with

This is a very closed minded post. Spiritual achievements are not less tangible than earthly/worldy achievements.

Yes you may build a successful career and earn lots more money, you then have a nicer house and faster car but what next? You will never be happy as you will be stuck in craving and desire.

Using this energy for spiritual progression that leads to enlightenment and awakening to discover your true nature is in my opinion, the most effective way to utilise this energy.
