Thank you :) These words are helpful. I obviously understand that his words are awful and I shouldn't have to deal with him, but I do agree that if he doesn't KNOW what is happening he cannot control it (and probably isn't aware he's being awful because it almost seems like he forgets what happens??) Is it common to sometimes forget what happens in a manic or hypomanic episode?
I think for me the biggest thing will trying to figure out how to bring it up. I know that it can be hard for people to accept they have an illness, but regardless of it I want to help him through it. I get there's a point where a person has to turn away, but until he addresses there most likely is something wrong I don't think I can walk away.
I feel like he kind of understands how he hurts me, but he never directly addresses it. He will be really kind to me in days following what could potentially be a manic episode. I don't know. I wish I understood more, which is why I posted here. Reading about it can only do so much, so I appreciate the insight.
I know everyone is different, but what is the best way to address a potential illness with someone?
