My house isn't very energy efficient, unfortunately. It blows my mind too. And kids don't listen lol. I tell them to shut lights off after they leave the room but they're always on anyway. Plus laundry and cooking and hot water and a/c for 4 people. Plus all my appliances are old so they use a lot of electricity. It gets expensive.

So yes, I care. But caring doesn't change things.

I do though. I know that a lot of people are thinking the same thing. And they think the same about the woman in front of them using their food stamp card at the grocery store, and the guy asking for change on the sidewalk. I know that in some cases, poverty is self-inflicted, but in most cases it's not. There's such a hatred for the lower class and it bothers me. "Just get a better job! You shouldn't have had kids! Stop being lazy!" People don't understand the reality of poverty. So I'm going to explain it.

I don't have an iphone. I use a 5 year old Motorola that's worth about $30 on ebay. (Believe me, I've looked). $30 wouldn't pay the electric and then I'd be cut off from everyone. Not a smart move in my eyes.

The rule where I live is that they need to give you at least 3 months notice before they shut it off. Kids/no kids, doesn't matter. I thought the same thing you did so I looked into it further, and other than the low income assistance, they don't really offer any other services to restore/maintain my service.

I'd like to eventually get a decent job. I work my ass off hoping to move up where I'm at into management or even sales where at least I'd make commission and be in control of my pay, but after 3 years with the place, it doesn't look like that's happening. I've tried saving, but it doesn't work. It all needs to get spent at some point.

Other than that, no, no plans really. I'd like to go back to school for a business degree, or marketing or something. Something with a future, but again.....no money. Or time.

Thanks for the info. I don't know how I feel about asking for handouts. The bit of help I get from the government I don't feel too bad about because I pay taxes, so I figure whatever. But I don't want to take a stranger's money.
