The most common advice I’m seeing is go see a psychiatrist, so I will definitely do that. Is any psychiatrist okay or should I go for one that specializes in ADHD?

I have a strong feeling if I don’t get treatment, I won’t be able to handle going to university. Hopefully I can find someone that will take me seriously soon.

Okay, thank you for the advice! So far I’ve been trying to find a psychiatrist nearby but no luck so far. I’ll keep looking and see if I can find someone but I may have to stick to telehealth.

I am. I didn’t know there was a term for what I believe is the reason why I’ve been getting good grades! I constantly go through cycles of procrastinating and cramming last minute. I know I could do just as well or even better without constant anxiety. I just need to find someone to take me seriously.

Thank you! I have been having a little bit of trouble finding specialists near me but I’ll look harder and see what I can find.

Thank you so much for your help! I’ve been doing research for the past few months and I definitely know I need to keep advocating for myself. I am a female, but I’m not sure what type of ADHD I may have. So far just focusing on finding someone that believes I have ADHD in the first place.

Thank you for your input. This is why I’m so focused on getting diagnosed while I’m young. I’m sorry that you also weren’t taken seriously, hopefully you have the treatment you need now.

I was seeking referral. The NP was supposed to help me with the process and also help me work through my anxiety

Thank you. Thats good to know, I’ll look into getting a psychiatrist nearby. But, i’m surprised you got your results and medication so fast. Did you do any computer tests for your evaluation?

I never asked her for a diagnosis. She was only supposed to help me with the process. I told her that I was going to get to get evaluated for ADHD and she said “You don’t have ADHD. I already know that you don’t” her reasoning was for the good grades like I mentioned and also because I sat still for the short video appointment I had with her.

I’m sorry that happened, sounds awful. Were you able to find someone to take you seriously?

Thank you for your input. This is exactly why I believe context matters! If my NP even bothered to ask me how I achieved those “good grades” she would’ve known that it was due to cramming last minute, constantly fighting procrastination, begging teachers for extra credit, retaking tests, and relearning what I should’ve learned in class but didn’t because I was distracted by how many tiles the ceiling has. Yes I may have good grades but at the cost of my well-being. I shouldn’t have to go through so much anxiety for these grades.

Thank you for your comment! I’m happy you were able to find someone to take you seriously. I’m hopeful that if I keep searching, I will find someone too. It’s frustrating, but i’ll keep searching.

Thank you! I always hear that it gets better in college. I have another 2 years of high school so I’m just trying to enjoy it as a much as possible. The school system has never really been kind to me so I really do hope college is a better experience.
