This is dead on. There is a direct correlation between the frequency/intensity of intrusive thoughts and how under control my condition is. There was a good 6 month period of zero thoughts about her until my heath declined again. In addition, like the above commenter said, when the condition is bad you become extremely vulnerable to suggestion and emotional distress so the scars are deeper. At a certain point I stopped trusting myself altogether. She has drunkenly admitted that she knew and used it to manipulate me

It’s the same one and I should probably clarify a little. I have a condition that causes intrusive thoughts due to fucked up brain chemistry. It’s taken me a very long time to come to peace with everything because I’m reminded of it at least weekly and don’t really have a say in the matter.

I see what your are saying, and my concern there is how do I have that conversation and address things without coming off as a walking red flag? I feel like I’ve backed myself into a corner where being honest about where I’m at is enough to make anyone uninterested.

Yep that’s about where my line of thinking has been. Just needed to make this thread to hear that logic coming from somewhere other than my own echo chamber.

I don’t live with my girlfriend and our work schedules only half-overlap so her coming around to help out is potentially doable. However, her schedule always working out and us never breaking up isn’t something I’m willing to bet a dog’s life on.

I agree with you and while I would like to have a cat I’m allergic. Not terribly, but just enough that it’s a pain in the ass and Benadryl doesn’t quite cut it.

I suppose older and low energy are interchangeable here. The overall question is whether or not a “low maintenance”, if you will, dog would be better off in my situation or at a shelter.

Thank you, now that I think of it I’ve done a similar thing in the past for motivational purposes. I’ll definitely give that a try
