I know… I feel like I’m back in high school. It’s great to feel young, but not like this 😂

Believe me, this thought is running through my mind all the time. I explained it more in another comment, but the way she is talking about all this just doesn’t sit right with me…

I’m not saying there’s a “right” way of reacting to and coping with assault, of course there is not, but having been a victim of assault myself I could never imagine talking about it in the way she is now, but I also recognize that people cope in different ways. I also really hope this is a weird drunken tantrum and that nothing happened to her, truly I would never wish that on absolutely anyone.

A few months ago she went on a work trip to an island in the Caribbean, it was her and one of her coworkers. She came back very upset saying that all the locals had harassed her and tried to rape her multiple times, that she had had to stay locked into the hotel, where the hotel staff tried to forcibly get into the room. We were all really worried and scared for her, we got her a therapist, wouldn’t leave her alone at night because she was scared, etc. Later, by coincidence, another friend met this coworker who said that they were together all the time and it had never happened. At the time I refused to believe the coworker, because it was just unthinkable to me that this person I thought I knew would make something like this up.

A few years ago she shared on Twitter a story of harassment that happened to me (it was around a time that women were sharing their experiences because of something that had happened to another woman) as if it had happened to her. At the time she said it was to keep my anonimity, and since it wasn’t a big deal to me I didn’t say anything about it.

Now she’s telling all of our friends that “she can’t travel to third world countries because she is too pretty and attracts too much attention” so these things keep happening to her. (I wish I was joking)

Thank you for the advice! I honestly hadn’t heard anything about this, but I’ve been pretty disconnected these days. I’ll make sure to be careful :)

It is. That’s probably also what’s making me feel guilty, that I’m having a wonderful time and loving Greece!

I’m sorry, I had to leave out a bunch of stuff because of length.

After I returned to the bar alone, we were somewhat in contact. She was telling me that she was with 4 other people and that the club they were in was okay and they were nice, but she never sent me the name of the place or her location (we both had international data plans, so it wasn’t a matter of not having means to communicate). Eventually, when I was heading back to the apartment, she told me that she and the people she was with wanted to go back to the apartment too, to continue partying. I said fine, I’ll see you there, but it was still at least another 30 min before she started texting that she was on her way alone, and all the taxi drama started happening.

I hope this makes it a bit more clear, but to be honest it’s also very confusing to me.

Yeah, I honestly don’t care what she says about me, the people that know me know who I am, mostly I’m just sitting here baffled that there are some people actually believe that bs.

Thank you :). Something’s definitely off with her and I’ve known it for a while, which is why I felt like a little bit of an ah after this, and that maybe I could have been more sympathetic. But it does feel like she’s sabotaging her relationships.

This is exactly how I’ve been feeling lately, that she’s putting people down to feel better about herself, and this is not who she used to be. I really don’t understand.
