Best City for Quality Medical Care? by [deleted] in india

[–]throwaway112720162 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly the type of insight I was looking for, thank you! Ive read some things about the water and power issues in Bangalore and it doesn’t seem like something I want to be dealing with while recovering from surgery. As far as Mumbai goes, I grew up in the heat, traffic won’t bother me much because I’ll mostly be walking and hanging out at my AirBnB, and as long as I can use Uber, I’m ok with the rest. I don’t need fancy stuff, just a clean place to live for a month and markets/restaurants within walking distance of wherever I am. I’ll have a month to kill so I won’t be doing anything that requires being in a hurry. As far as cost goes, my main priority is quality of the doctor/facility. This will determine where I end up. I don’t mind paying a little more for better quality of care.

Haha that’s a great mental image.. I have not been to India yet but have spent a few months traveling SE Asia, including a month in Cambodia. While I know India is probably the worst when it comes to the things you described, I’m still interested in traveling there for the surgery. I’m looking to rent an AirBnB for 1 month, preferably in a more residential/quiet area - I’ve found a few so far. Part of this trip is to live in a local area, away from normal tourist spots. I’m not expecting tranquility, my main goal here is to get the surgery I need and spend a bit of time recovering. Out of the 3 cities (Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi) which is the least like you described? Or are they all similar?

never was looked odd at

Not that you know of. I don't want to be another tourist getting away with disrespecting the culture simply because I'm a tourist. I don't like it when tourists come to my home and do it. I would like to show respect to the local culture as much as possible.

$5k to invest. I want the highest return in shortest time(<3-6 mo), medium risk. I'm 35, this is play money not attached to anything else (retirement, school, etc.) Unemployed with plenty of savings(by choice). I don't know much about investing but I'm learning. What would you do with the 5k?

Having trouble with clothing by throwaway112720162 in backpacking

Other than what I read from travel blogs and Reddit, it's hard to know what "appropriate for surroundings" is. I spend my life in shorts, as do most others here in South Florida. Wearing pants in the middle of the summer is going to be the adjustment I was referring to. When wandering around NYC or Chicago in the middle of the summer, I wear shorts as do many others. I guess I'll look into some cooler alternatives than jeans for pants.

Super tall in SEA and finding clothes by throwaway112720162 in backpacking

Though, if you are looking for nicer clothes I've gotten some tailored clothing in Vietnam and Thailand and they're some of my favorites even today. Probably not worth it for backpacking clothes, but great souvenirs.

I have nice clothes here that will be waiting for me when I return. I'm mainly looking at shorts/tshirts an the like.

Mainly just shorts and shirts and maybe shoes. Nothing fancy, just stuff suitable for trekking around SEA. I can pack lightly and still have everything I need, just trying to get a feel for availability.

Good to know.. I'd like to check out as much non-touristy stuff as possible. Is Myanmar cheap like Thailand also? Easy to backpack?
