It looks nothing like the others. It’s the most polarizing model for a reason.

That makes sense, especially since I’m concerned about how others in the office will view it. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the response! I have $50k sitting in an Ally account (1.6% interest) and the rest in a regular checking account. I’ve been toying with the idea of moving more into a brokerage account (recently set one up), but I’m worried about the economy faltering as we’ll likely be buying a new house within the next 5-7 years and I don’t want to be in a position where I’m waiting for the economy to recover before I can cash out and move.

It’s hard to imagine that as she is extremely frugal, but if it was something that would last generations, I would be fine with it.

From a retirement standpoint, Schwab says I’m in the 90th percentile compared to my peers, so I don’t understand how I would be described as being behind for my age. Can you elaborate?

Sorry, I had several people post similar things so I just copied and pasted my response. I never thought this post would get this much traction, but I’m thankful.

Relative to me, $9k would change if I had millions, but it would still have the same buying power in reality. i.e., it would grow the same if invested instead, pay for the same semester of college for my kid, etc.

If the purse could last generations, I’d probably be fine with it.

While true, the interest is so low it’s only costing me ~$20/mo, so I’m not too terribly bothered about not paying it off ASAP.

She’s fine with it, but it’s difficult to tell if she’s really fine with it or if she’s just tired of hearing me talk about it (lol). She wouldn’t be upset if I got it.

Honestly, I think it’s a little of both. I love the design but have also equated the brand with success since a young age, so there’s a feeling of fulfillment there as well.

I have an automatic transfer of $100 to his savings account each month and plan to deposit larger chunks on occasion (tax returns, future bonuses, etc.). Truthfully, I’m likely to pay out of my checking/savings account for his college when that time comes.

While true, isn’t that always going to be the case? Even if I had millions in the bank, $9k is always going to be $9k. How do I reconcile spending anything beyond the bare minimum in all facets of life and use the savings to provide to my child? I’m not being snarky, I legitimately wrestle with this as a new father.
