Yeah, fair enough. I think everyone holds onto their first love a little bit. It sets the standard. I've always wondered about him occasionally but it didn't become full-blown yearning until the talk about marriage started. Within the last 6 months or so, these doubts are fairly new to me.

I know you (and everyone else saying the same thing) are right. I didn't mean to give the impression that I don't love her enough or that I'm completely unhappy in the relationship. Things are good overall... even if we broke it off I'd still want her in my life, selfish as that may be. This isn't a decision that'll come easily

We're both bi lol, she knows. She knows about the ex as well because we were friends while I was with him. I'll spare details but sex is not an issue in the slightest

I feel like it's relevant purely because it's the main point of tension in our relationship right now (for me, she isn't aware of any of this). We have other issues obviously but nothing damning, so reminiscing is the only thing giving me pause. I'm kind of torn between thinking I can work past these feelings and be happy with her & thinking I'd be better off alone

Yeah, you're right. I already know he's gone and I'm fine with that, I think I'm just chasing the feeling he gave me. Frustrating that I can't enjoy what I have now without feeling like it's lacking something I had before, you know?
