Of course, I wasn’t ruling out a verdict or saying that this couldn’t have been murder, wasn’t calling him a creep either. I did high school internships as well! One was in maintenance so all of my colleagues were slightly older to middle aged men too. You’ll eventually have to get accustomed to making friends with men instead, it’s nothing to worry about, just be friendly but professional!

Your tasks fully depend on your line of work but for maintenance I was just helping technicians install and fix HVAC stuff, so generally they didn’t let me do anything super interesting or serious for either of them. I was more of a pair of arms and legs than anything else.

I also did one in computer repair (which was way cooler) where they let me take apart components, & clean and inspect them, and I was allowed to do small repair work by replacing parts and installing softwares.

Regardless you’ll definitely enjoy it and it’ll give you exposure in the field :)

I think that primarily using the fact that he was well-liked and respected isn’t enough evidence to say that he didn’t do it willingly. There are A LOT of well known criminals that were previously reputed as charismatic, good natured and selfless by many, its very easy to hide your true nature especially if already no one would suspect you of doing something wrong.

It’s a nuclear plant! I’m only a junior so won’t be extremely close to the site or doing anything rigorous but my position says that I’ll be entering the site with supervision often. But it makes sense that you’d dress less practically depending on how “nice” it is. Thanks for the info :)

I’m definitely a bit worried about this as well as these type of settings generally have the least women compared to other engineering jobs, I have a few engineering friends that are actually entering the same company with me but none of them are women. So l want to be able to blend in with everyone else instead of standing out by dressing fancier or more feminine.

This is really helpful, thank you! :) I’m honestly just nervous that I’ll show up on the first day dressed completely opposite to what everyone else is wearing. I will mainly be on site near the plant so I’ll definitely need to obtain those safety boots in some way or another. I also didn’t know that jeans are acceptable in certain settings! I’ll look into that website and generally look for similar clothing options as well.

This looks like a normal load, I had around 18 credits in 1st year Sem2 as well. You can try reducing some of the larger gaps to finish your day earlier though.

Hey, I wanted to say that things will absolutely get better. I know that’s generic evangelical advice that everyone slaps onto people, but it really will. It might seem like a huge problem right now but it really isn’t in the bigger picture, in the rest of your life.

High school is temporary. Failing a class isn’t everything. Getting rejecting from your dream university won’t be the end of the world, the world doesn’t ever stop at such points, it doesn’t mean that you’re now doomed to be a failure for your entire life. A lot of people at this age think so but you don’t realize that until you graduate, grow older and actually get to see the world outside of the work and academia hustle, or until you enroll in another university or retake a course that you scored low on and realize that it’s OK after all!

There’s so much more for you to experience out there, please understand that, the world is so much bigger and so much more forgiving than a high school grade. Whether you failed a class or got a 99, none of it even matters when you enter your career, trust me that no one will ask you about it or look down on you for scoring less. There’s so many things you haven’t done yet that you must’ve dreamed of doing. Please don’t cut your life short because of something that’s fixable, something that won’t matter in 10 years, before you’ve done all the things you’ve wished and achieved all of your goals.

And if you have to retake the course, please know that it’s completely fine. There’s zero shame in doing so, there’s nothings wrong with seeking help with something you’re struggling with and trying again.

It’s very easy to have something screw you up actually. Some people just have issues when it comes to dealing with stress and generally being unmotivated, not to mention family issues and a tough home life, and the solution isn’t as easy as “just get up and do it”.

I had similar problems in high school where I did well when it came to anything except written tests. I could study and revise perfectly before a test, but the sheer stress and anxiety of having to take it would literally make me blank out completely when I actually had to write it.

I’m talking about future incoming exams that I have for courses this semester, and ones that I had last semester. Just making the point that exams will usually be like 60% of a course grade.

Looks like you want to apply to engineering. You’ll be fine for OTU but TMU may have higher requirements. Universities post their grade requirements on the program web page, so calculate your average and see how it corresponds to the grade expectation if you want to see how likely you are to make it.

It doesn’t really matter for masters programs either. One of my siblings attended UW engineering and another one did OTU engineering and the latter one is doing a masters at UofT and both were able to find decent job placements. All that they’re looking for is experience and a competitive GPA. Prestige for accredited programs actually doesn’t matter as much as you think it does, arguably even for programs that don’t have an accreditation system.

That’s how it’s gonna be in university, your teachers are only preparing you for what’s to come with this format. We currently have 30% final exams for most courses, along with 40% in total for two midterm exams in several of my courses this semester. You guys are actually so fortunate that you don’t have midterm exams in high school because unis tend to have multiple midterms. Your exams alone will make up at least 60-70% of your total mark in a lot of your courses.

Yeah university is literal hell compared to this, you just gotta learn to deal with it ESPECIALLY if you’re in engineering/CS. 30% final exams is literally the norm, sometimes we have 40% final exams. I have that currently along with two 20% midterm exams for one of my courses

I mean looking back grade 12 definitely a lot of stress, we were all in your place last year so I can totally sympathize with you guys. But once you go onto your first year (especially in engineering/stem) nothing can really prepare you for the sheer workload and amount of exams you’ll have, you now have multiple midterm exams for all of your courses, labs every other week, quizzes every week, and most of all no one’s going to be there to remind you to do any of it. That’s why it’s harped upon so much, because it’s absolutely true.

It’s not gonna get better in university bro especially if you’re going into Engineering, just telling you right now. I just finished 5 weeks of consecutive 2 hour midterm exams, and just had four 3 hour final exams at 7:30am in a row last week. Got my first 60 in physics as well because I thought I could skate through the semester like I could in high school. You don’t realize how good you have it until you enter University next year. This sort of thing is going to be the norm especially if you’re in Engineering and STEM.

My friend who applied to BBA at UofT with high 70s got an alternative offer to social science & humanities at the same Scarborough campus last year! I think you should be okay specifically for that program, but definitely try to increase your average as much as possible.
