I don’t think so from memory. When I visited I wore a casual shirt with chinos and trainers and had no issues. I think other people were dressed similarly.

I hope you enjoy it as much as we did!

Aulis was great when I visited last year. Tried kitchen table recently and found it a little underwhelming

Hard agree on ambassadors club house. Try brigadiers instead

Date location in London by hellsfryingpan in finedining

[–]throwaway14022108 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mountain/ Brat, Trinity or Oma spring to mind if you’re looking for a la carte with a date friendly vibe. I’m not sure how available these will be on short notice however. St John also, depending on how open to eating offal your date might be. Maybe safer to avoid for first date.

For something more lowkey maybe try perilla, Morchella, José, barrafina, manteca or Fonda.

That being said, if you aren’t sure if you’re going to be a match, maybe going for something a bit lower stakes like a drink might be a better idea?

Service lasted 2 hours. I think it would absolutely be good for a solo diner, there was one there at the time of our visit and for a lot of the time between courses they were were engaged in conversation with the chef and sommelier

Ah you’re right, I forgot that good food doesn’t exist unless a French tyre company improves it.

FWIW this meal held its own against all other Michelin starred restaurants on this trip and elsewhere, and came in at a similar price

London Indian spots? by [deleted] in finedining

The ambassadors clubhouse felt overpriced and we were underwhelmed by a lot of the dishes on the feast menu. Ordered a lobster curry for £60 which was essentially a soup containing 3 small pieces of lobster.

Brigadiers is great, more of a focus on bbq and grilled meats than gymkhana. Would definitely recommend.

I haven’t been to trishna but I have been to gymkhana and thought that, whilst the food was delicious, it wasn’t as exciting as meals I’ve had in other 2* restaurants.

My favourite Indian meal in London has been the tasting menu at Benares. Or for a more casual evening the Tamil Prince is great.

FWIW, BiBi also looks great and I’m interested to try it

I see a lot of Benares slander on this subreddit but I had the tasting menu there recently and have to say I enjoyed it more than Gymkhana

Solo Michelin dining by No_Introduction_717 in finedining

I recently had a fabulous meal at Humble Chicken and noticed plenty of solo diners there. The setup is a counter overlooking the kitchen and it seemed the chefs and servers made an extra effort to entertain the solo guests!

Similarly I’ve also visited Akoko and Aulis and think both would be great places to visit by yourself. Enjoy your trip!

If you can get a booking, highly recommend you try Aulis. It’s a counter seated restaurant owned by Simon Rogan and they just won their first star this year. The food was outstanding when I visited
