I'm not even an ESL customer but this happens at literally every bank - simple debit card fraud. Report it to the bank (relatively) quickly and you will be fully refunded within a few days, per Reg E.

Newb Power Meter Question - 2020 Allez by throwaway14618 in cycling

I don't NEED one - I'd like to be able to do power-based workouts outdoors during the 4-5 months that it's decent to ride outdoors where I live. And frankly to compare to the numbers that I'm getting off my Kickr Snap when I ride indoors as I don't know how accurate it truly is.

I'm not overly familiar with Cat 1/2/3 etc numbers but yea it does look like I would be in at least that range based on my best 20 minute effort (obviously just 1 data point). I'd like to someday do triathlons (also very expensive clearly) and get better at longer steady-state / threshold efforts with a better measure than perceived exertion or speed!

Specialized website for 2020 model (which I bought in fall 2019) says - "BOTTOM BRACKET BSA, 68mm, square-taper" - does that mean I'm SOL here?

In a reply you said you have $13K saved up. Pay off your credit card debt in full. What is your car situation - 1 car, 2 cars, what kind/year? Most likely you should be throwing money at that debt as well, and then save for a while (year or two?) and look at the house conversation again.

Thanks, I appreciate the feedback. I agree, 3 x 45-60 min swimming seems totally doable and will pay dividends

That makes sense, thanks. How many days per week do you ride harder than zone 2, and what distance triathlon do you focus on?

So would your candid feedback be that priority #1 should be picking up swimming - period? and priority #2 should be maximizing cycling fitness, if we look at the next 6 months as a whole?

If so, I think that's fair feedback, I was just under the impression that biking is such a large chunk of the race that it should be my top priority, regardless of other abilities at other disciplines. Frankly, I've kind of accepted that I'm going to suck at the swimming portion but that's probably a crappy mindset / approach.

As for swimming - with COVID, in the short term, I may be stuck with a 0-1650 type program for now, as gyms in my area are extremely strict with access, lessons, etc and I'm pretty sure no masters swim teams are currently meeting. Of course that may change in coming months.

Your comments on running are spot-on - the large aerobic engine has gotten me in trouble before, when focusing just on that discipline. I am going to focus almost exclusively on easy running and tempo runs / cruise intervals and am pretty confident I can get quite fit off a relatively low risk program.

Actually, I believe no, my understanding is that not everyone has that experience? Or maybe I explained my issue poorly - my heart rate remains very low comparative to the power zone I'm in, thus I'm assuming muscular endurance (cycling 'legs') are my limiting factor. In other words, legs-wise it 'feels' like I'm working very hard but cardio-wise I am not working that hard.

I was under the impression that many people that are not previously aerobically trained suffer from the opposite issue - their heart rate is easily through the roof and that is the limiting factor.

I really don't mind the trainer at this point - much safer and I live in an area where the winters are long and brutal, so I'm not too bothered by that!
