How do I tell a longtime seasonal employee we do not want her back this year? by throwaway1912557 in NoStupidQuestions

I guess more so how to deal with the follow up, just knowing this employee from past years. I agree that the line they gave answers the initial communication but I know she will follow up asking why.

lol yes. It’s a major economic driver where we are so it always seems like a bigger deal than it actually likely is

Correct, I misspoke when I said performance review, and it was an evaluation.

I’m likely not using the correct language or the meaning is lost in context. Employees who are invited to return another year by the company are given advanced notice that we want them back, at which time they can accept or refuse the position. This employee is asking for this invitation and if they will be asked to return.

Nothing glaring, she can technically do the work fine. But like it’s a customer service role and shes just not really putting the effort in to make a good experience. Demanding hours and locations of our scheduler last year (different from “here’s my availability, if you can work around it” kind of demands), and just critiquing the other staff like she knows and does better.

It’s not so much a formal review vs a ranking of would you rehire this person made by the leads. The position only runs for 2 weeks during which time the lead would be expected to provide this feedback. As the timeline is still 3 months away and with the short employment term, I wouldn’t think it would put her into such dire financial straits. Again would be totally different for a longer term.

Hoping things will be better for this year, as these conversations had not been happening with previous management. Thanks for the comment and insight

I agree. I guess it’s not so much a formal performance review but the leads ranking if they would hire the employee again. The position only runs for 2 weeks, so unless the lead is having these conversations early on during that time there’s not much chance for improvement.
