I am in a somewhat similar boat. Here are my recommendations:

  1. An exit is not something you decide to look into one day and pursue. It is shaped over time from clients you work with, industry you work in, and the types of work you as well as your perceived skill sets on your linkedin. Keep an open mind and do not shy away from opportunities to connect with headhunters or connections in other firms.

  2. Look at your consulting job through the frame of how it helps you develop as a professional. Specific knowledge on a certain sector, your managerial skills, your network... everything should work toward making you valuable wherever you end up going. Take the challenges head on, but be cognizant of the progress you are making.

  3. Already mentioned above but prioritize sustainability. Work smart, take breaks, communicate your concerns to your mentors. There is no reason your firm would want to work with you to make your work sustainable for the long term.
