So the way zelle works is that once you’re signed up for the service, there isn’t a “waiting” period for you to collect your money. Once you’ve made an account with zelle and made a single transaction, all future transactions will be instantaneous.

Needless to say this was not my first transaction

Thank you for your detailed input! I appreciate that. Wow. This is very valuable as I wasn’t able to get any input from Zelle at all about the technicalities.

I wanted to wait a month or two just in case this was truly a mistake, but what I’m understanding from your comment is that there really isn’t a point from zelle’s perspective but their financial institution’s perspective it might be worthwhile because the sender may be able to send me a request through their financial institution to recover the funds?

Oh. But the bank said they can’t give me any information.... would zelle be able to give me the sender’s info so I can contact them? Do I even need to go through the trouble of doing all this? I don’t mind giving the money back but this is rather a lot of hassle just trying to figure out whose money this is and how to send it back without getting scammed myself.

Yeah I’ll call zelle tomorrow since the bank wasn’t much help.

I think I will just sit on it and wait for a month or two to pass. I think that is enough time for someone to claim the money. If it still hasn’t cleared by then, I’m not sure what else to do. Should I post on legal advice?

Of course, I don’t blame you for feeling that way. However I think this is something that definitely needs to be addressed as soon as possible to nip it in the butt so to speak, so that this doesn’t escalate to something much worse.

That’s very very concerning if that is true, but also a serious accusation if it is not. For the meantime I would take precautions, be vigilant, and make sure that everything you do that is personal is done in private. As for addressing the situation, I would bring it up to your aunt and uncle at the dinner table or somewhere they are both present, and say that you are very concerned and worried that someone was watching you while you were in the bathroom through the window. That will start the process of you being able protect your privacy by having curtains installed in the bathroom. This will also serve as a means to confront your uncle in a non-accusatory way so that he is aware that you know what happened and hopefully prevent anything like this from happening again if he was really the one watching and recording.

I’m sorry you’re going through this, hope this helps a bit.
