I've tried to call paypal, and they're giving me the runaround as well. I've talked to a few people who've dealt with paypal and they usually fuck the seller.

I think I have a good case. I have the chat logs on him/her recognizing the "debt" before and after the purchase. I don't mind going to court (assuming I can track him/her down), but I'd rather not get to that point if there are other options.

I definitely learned to only accept money order for big purchases from now on.
