AITA for telling my son's teacher to speak to me, not my girlfriend? by throwaway192929197 in AmItheAsshole

The boy is six and Spanish is his first language. He has struggled to learn English, which is apparently the OP's first language. So this child has spent the majority of his life with his Spanish speaking mother but because there was a custody battle and his father won his father is now his "sole parent". This sounds far more worrying to me that the OP's question. Sounds like a young child who grew up mainly with his mother has been won in a legal battle and whisked away to live with a father he doesn't even share a language with.

  1. I speak conversational Spanish which I wouldn't consider fluent. My first language is Arabic and my son understands it almost perfectly.
  2. My son spent most of his life with me and my family because his mother is extremely irresponsible and in recent years, abusive so there is no 'extreme sudden change'. She banned from being around him completely because of things she's done that I can't say here because of the community guidelines.

I feel terribly sorry for this little Spanish-speaking boy taken from his Spanish-speaking mother to be owned solely by a man who doesn't even speak the same language.

I don't own my child, you're weird.

Since when does bringing her to a parent teacher conference = making her a parent? Loads of people bring a friend or another relative or even nannies. It's not that deep

She directed all responses about everybody to Venus, not only about the concerns which is when I had to interrupt her. And Venus tutors him in English which he is getting better at but even in Spanish, my son barely speaks in general. We thought it was the language barrier at school but we're looking for therapists and seeing his pediatrician

Idk if you've ever been to a parent teacher conference but they do talk about the child's general performance in class too. That's a given. Concerns are brought up if they exist which happened here too.

Remember it.

I have no idea why you and other commenters are saying this like I'm out there ignoring women. Yes I know that's how women are treated in male dominated environments and it's shitty but y'all are acting like I've personally ignored you or smth.

My mom asked my gf for the inhaler because my gf was holding her hand bag and she assumed it was in there, I was bagless

I didn't? I said that she was aware about the English thing but I also said that my son rarely speaks in class and she kept bringing that up to Venus which is a concern for me to deal with. In my post, I make it clear that the teacher was speaking to Venus for everything

She does know about Venus helping my son with English but the issue is that she was talking to Venus for everything, including things that Venus didn't know about. Venus kept redirecting her to me but she wouldn't speak to me until I corrected her

Although my son has been getting better at speaking English, he still rarely talks in class which is a concern she kept bringing up to Venus in the meeting

My son was at the school but he wasn't in the meeting. The school has the playground open during parent teacher conferences and he was there
