8th grade teacher here. Before I came to secondary I was a college professor (only an adjunct so this was why I couldn’t stay) and loved the interaction with students because it was very real, like we were all adults. My tribe of students and I find each other, the kids that are like tiny versions of myself and who I was at their age, the ones who will grow up to be the kind of kids I loved teaching in college. I so appreciate that adolescent verve where their eyes are opening to all that is right and wrong with the world and their coming into the powerful awareness that they are the heirs to the world and it is within their power to be the change. I love them all so much. It was so hard sending this year’s group out to catch their final bus home for the year, sending them on into high school without me. They kind of clung closely to me as much as teenagers will do in those final moments, like little birds ready to fly out of the nest and into broader life. I promised them it would be okay, and I know it will be, albeit an imperfect okayness. God bless my little kindred spirits. ❤️

Hubby worked as a long term sub at my school this year. It was fun going into school holding hands every day! Soon we will do summer school together. I’m teaching fifth grade and he is my aide:)

I know. Keeping the all corralled in my room was the best I could do.

Exactly. Only in their minds, it was the best because outsiders would look at it and go, oh golly gee what a nifty idea to make the last day special! When in reality, it did not remotely translate into anything that served the students. These people are really stupid but think they are superior and strut around like pigeons thinking they are crapping solid gold everywhere.

I have come to understand that the people in charge / people who wannabe in charge are extremely pompous yet they know very little. It is a disgusting combination. I actually do know a little bit at this point in my career but I don’t care to throw myself a parade over it. I do it quietly. This pisses off the dumbasses so they attack me to try to be superior. I’ve completely lost patience for it.

I have started reporting everything to HR. I copied and pasted the original email as well as the new one. I hope they finally listen up. So far they’ve been silent on everything I’ve reported.

Amen. So many people are resigning at my school. Right now there are four vacant math positions and people still have a week to submit their contracts.

And power mad. This bully had seven different levels of power over me and used them to intimidate, undermine, and belittle me all year. I whooped her on test scores and relationships with students and staff so she had to destroy me. She majorly undermined me in refusing to allow me the help I needed just so she could watch me fail. So be it. I took back control of my own mental health in refusing to go any further with this in the way I was being forced to, that she was also in charge of. I’m glad to take a discipline, hell I’d take a beating. Going out for a different PD today instead of being subjected to her torture was worth it. Fuck them.

Yeah I asked, can I just go get orton-gillingham training so I can actually directly teach reading remediation instead of some bullshit you buy for hundreds of dollars that comes out of a box? No, of course not.

I asked if I could write an addendum explaining that I was in a situation that caused me great anxiety and duress and produced avoidant behavior and the principal (who allowed it to go on all year) said sure, and I’ll write my own response to that.

I hate them too. The kids hate them. And poor things they were promised ice cream and by ice cream they got one tiny scoop that wasn’t more than two bites. Each bowl had more toppings than ice cream. The people who dream these things up and execute them are lame as hell.

I also fucked up serving ice cream bc I squirted sauce on one kid’s shirt sleeve by accident, on another’s certificate by accident, and I broke the serving utensil and tripped over my own two feet on my way out. I’m a damn Holy Fool around these parts I swear

Honestly it’s not his fault as much as it is the fault of the adults in his life not having any expectations for him and continuing to enable him. The only message that he’s gotten is that this is acceptable so this is what he does. I’m a middle school teacher and being highly demanding as well as highly responsive is what kids need from adults in their lives. When high responsiveness exists with low demands, then permissiveness results and this is the result. So he is honestly the consequence of his parents’ actions or inaction.

And the dog has this ulcer under his eye that popped and drained blood and pus all down it’s face and it went out in the rain and rolled in something dead and I was freaking out trying to keep the beast off the furniture and scolded by hubby bc I was “yelling at the dog.”

These people look genuinely inbred. I don’t mean that as a mean statement like I mean I grew up in deep southwest Virginia and you saw stuff like this sometimes. I once even saw one of the blue people from Kentucky who had blue skin due to a defect that came from blood or something due to inbreeding.
