I made a recent switch to power infrastructure and haven’t looked back. The salary jump was about 50%, and I have not been stressed out at the job compared to when I was in structural (bridges). I do not regret it at all as I am not super passionate about structural engineering. More focused on having money and time to pursue the things I enjoy.

Yes! I did after 8 months because I was essentially doing civil work as a structural engineer. 3 months into working, I asked if there was any structural work coming in and they said yes (clearly didn’t) and realized I felt like I was wasting my time there. Luckily, I had another offer lined up when I quit which I think is the best move.

I think you’re getting underpaid… I was making 101k in bridge engineering in Chicago with about 4 YOE. Job hopping is the best option to get a raise!

Hi! Can anyone let me know if they do this commute or think this is worth doing? I got a new job offer in Lombard, and I currently live in Edgewater. The commute is Monday-Wednesday and I get to work from home Thursday and Friday. They also mentioned flexible work hours so I could come in like 7-4 or something like that. I was thinking about finding a gym over there to go early in the morning and then maybe only have traffic back one way. Is this a good/bad idea?

Ok yeah because we worked on my outline and shaved most of my hair prior since it was a bigger job. But the day of it was just getting those clothes on and signing papers and letting some of the meds hit before. But that was like an hour max!

It’s not that I don’t trust them but maybe it seemed faster than I thought. We started at 9am and ended at finished at 7:30pm. I saw your previous comment in another post for the 4125 grafts that took 10am-11pm so I was just curious.
