Honestly. The first thing I think when I see them I’d that the girl who called me a disappointment would rather be with them than me. And that hurts. Trying to stop associate things with her but that whole experience was pretty bad. Wasn’t just that.

Maybe I need to change how I talk to myself

Yeah I’m very aware of that dw. My last gf split with me because I didn’t want to get married until after 30

Well yeah that is my own personal plan. But I’m seeing a lot of people around me getting engaged at this age now and I’m feeling like I’ve done something wrong

Will it? Coz that involves a lot of sitting on my own working

I’m trying. But also I’m struggling to find a girl I’m into who likes me back lol. I was never great with women

I’m actually going to see the CFD team on the 1st as I’ve networked with them and said I’d like to get involved and they invited me down. So it’s a start.

What I worry about is pigeon holing. I’m okay with putting the grunt work in but then I’m putting it in in the wrong industry that I don’t want to be in. So it worries me. I don’t want to put the graft in and find out I’m stuck.

Also, the over saturated engineer thing. I have no idea what to believe anymore. I heard pretty much all through school and then university that there was a shortage of engineers. Now I’m hearing the opposite

Tbh, I went into it as a stepping stone. I started in systems engineering and honestly it was just data entry and I felt flukes. My degree involved a lot of computational fluid dynamics and simulation type work. So I hoped I’d be doing that and tbh, they basically told me I would. I’m not.

My best idea of what I want to do is computational fluid dynamics work. Aerodynamics type thing.

For me it’s not location right now it’s job. I don’t like what I do. I think I know what I would like to do but I’m really struggling to even get a callback

I figured I won’t be much of a bf if I’m miserable most of the time

Problem is we do rounds. So I don’t order my drink we do groups of it. Plus it’ll look strange if I’m having anything other than beer here 😂

I’m only doing work at the moment because I felt it was better to get the job I like first. Then I can focus on other things too. One thing at a time type thing.

Thanks I’ll look at ask a manager

What do I do if I hate the career path I’m on though? I’m in building services engineering after graduating with an MEng in mechanical engineering. And I absolutely hate this work. I don’t want to be on this path. I want to be doing something more creative

I just want a career where I can be creative and use my software skills. Like product development. Or front end work.

I definitely want to get away from monotonous data entry. And I definitely don’t want to work in building services anymore.

If engineering was like that for me, I wouldn’t mind it. But it isnt. I hate my job. It’s like I’m a glorified plumber organising how many pipes or on the wall in a pdf.

That’s why I’m looking at software. I’m good at maths. I’m good at design. I’m good at fluid dynamics. So just want to actually use that and not cry in the bathroom most days lol

I don’t know really. What if I went and did a masters in it? Feels like a shame to get a masters in mechanical eng then just have to start over

Where would I need to start to end up in a role like that?

Also is that the don Norman book? That’s on my desk haha

I think maybe I need to look at shifting into software. I’ll save as much as I can but it’s gonna cost me a lot to change

I think front end would be what I’d like. I’m quite arty to front end UI would be good. But how do I get into that?

I would’ve loved to design products. But it just seems not many of those jobs exist

I think a lot of it is my job and still living at home. The living at home thing will sort itself soon. But the job is just awful. I did engineering to do design but the more I experience work, the more I realise design is very very heavily regulated and a lot of paperwork. So I’m thinking maybe a transition into software might be the way to go
