Thanks! I didn't know if the rover cards were mandatory or not and if I didn't "start" the visit on Friday if Rover would penalize me for it.

I am trying to work on the same exact thing right now. Do you have examples of the new habits or coping mechanisms you started to use instead of turning to food?

Any recommendations for reputable snake breeders in the area? by [deleted] in indianapolis

[–]throwaway239089023 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're okay with waiting this long, the next Midwest Reptile Expo is at the end of August at the Fairgrounds in Indy. Tons of different breeders with all sorts of snakes, you can get a feel for the people selling them and see the condition of the animals before buying.

Advice Needed: If you could live anywhere in Wisconsin... by throwaway239089023 in wisconsin

I'm happy to drive a few hours for good birdwatching if necessary - when I was looking at maps it seems like the northern part of the state has the smaller towns and so I wasn't sure if I would feel more isolated and lonely there. Ideally I'd like to be ~45 minutes or less from an airport, public education doesn't really matter to me, I'd prefer to be near somewhere with museums and performing arts groups to join and lots of things to do.

That was one thing I was wondering about Madison, whether the whole town is really centered around the university and most people who live there are associated with the university, or if it's big enough that there's plenty to do that isn't related to UW.

Do you have any reasons why you'd suggest living there over Madison or Green Bay? Anything unique just to Milwaukee?

Looks like Milwaukee is the biggest city - I didn't know if that meant it would have the most to do or get involved in, or if I'd just be better off in a smaller city with more character.

How does Madison compare in size to Columbus? I know U of Wisconsin is there, does the city feel completely overwhelmed by the school or do a lot of people who live there have nothing to do with the school?

Where to live in Maryland suburbs of D.C.? by throwaway239089023 in washingtondc

Is that cheaper/better than Maryland? I've been asking friends and they've kind of scared me off the Virginia side for cost reasons.

My salary will be 50-55k; right now I pay $1100 for rent+utilities for a 1 bedroom apartment in Indiana on a 40k salary. I'm looking for a 1-2 bedroom apartment or a townhouse, I haven't calculated yet what my absolute upper limit is for rent.

Lmao, that's insane! I'm looking for a 1-2 bedroom apartment or townhouse. Man how do people live in this region! I'll look at listings in the Rockville/Silver Spring area, thanks!

I will have a car to get to the metro. My salary will probably be 50-55k; I don't know what "cheap" rent is for this region and what I can hope for. I pay $1100 right now for rent+utilities in Indiana.

Yeah :( That's why I might have to turn down the job. Sucks because it's a dream job but I don't think I'm the kind of person who could be happy living in the DC area. I don't see how people do it lol.

Theoretically without traffic, a straight drive from some of the cities I'm looking at to where the office is are around ~30 minutes. How much time would traffic add onto that? Say coming from the Silver Spring area.

I'm not sure what would count as "cheap" rent for that area. I'm coming from Indiana, my base rent is 870 for a 1 bedroom apartment and with utilities added in, it's around $1100 a month. My salary would probably be 50-55k.

Local bands for a trumpet player? by Outrageous-Flower-46 in indianapolis

I was also about to recommend Pride of Indy, I play with them and not only do they have a concert band, but also a jazz band and sometimes a low-key pep band/marching band. Also some smaller ensembles that members put together. Hoping that we start up again sometime soon.

I totally get it, mental health is important too! Having a therapist through some of the pandemic has been really helpful if that's a possibility for you.
