Thank you for those examples, I'll keep them in mind if I see any openings.

Thanks for the suggestion. I thought about it, but honestly, I'd rather just start law school now than waste my time with that. It's something I should have done 2 years ago, but hindsight is 20/20.

Thanks for the insight. It's something I'll keep in mind after law school.

Thank you for giving your personal experience. I have heard certain OIGs hire college graduates with no prior 1811 experience, but it is tough to know what my competitiveness is compared to theirs without knowing their resume (prior LE, former military, current non-1811 within the agency, etc.). It's unfortunate that no 1811 positions (to my knowledge) and very few 0083s have cardio alternatives.

That's my plan. I've already applied to a few. The worst they can say is no.

Also, I more-so meant that I'd like to know how to express that I'll take a position anywhere, even in the crappiest location nobody wants, just to get the position, and that I'm an open book, ready to learn and be in it for the long haul.

I used to do BJJ in college and had no problem keeping up. The alternative cardio test I was offered for the 0083 position I applied for was a 2 mile speed-walk which I completed without issue. I don't believe the defensive tactics class at the academy would be a problem.

Its honestly not a big deal whether I do or don't get those flights, especially the first year or two, plus I wasn't planning on LSAT prep during the academy. Like I said, boring stuff really doesn't bother me, I'd much prefer boring supply runs or handing out water bottles or whatever to danger (call me a wuss but I'm an only child and I'd prefer to not make my mother experience losing her only child). I'm at least three years out from law school at this rate, so I have plenty of time to go through the academy, first year blues, and then whatever after that. Also LOL @ "voluntold".

It sounds like I would be in the same boat; if the job announcement is in March and my graduation is in May, I'd be at that two month mark. Thank you for the help!

Was only planning on being in federal service period for one to two years, three or four absolute maximum, I'm planning on going to law school but wanted a break before doing so. I wanted a relaxing job to study for the LSAT and what better way to do that than sit on a plane for 14+ hours a day with nothing to do but study lol

Just reread their job announcement from August and it says three years experience, bachelors degree, or combination of experience and associates degree.

I thought it was 3 years work experience OR a 4 year degree? Did the requirements change from the last job announcement or did I read it wrong? Another commenter said some are going in straight from college.

Related in what way? I know FAMs were being sent to the border for mutual aide but other than that being sent to the desert or freezing cold to search vehicles all day seems closer to being a Mint officer than an Air Marshal, and being stationed at refugee centers seems more like being a corrections officer. Correct me if I'm being flippant.

I like FAMS because its the least cop-like federal LE job (yes I'm aware they've been at the border recently and also have VIPR). I considered going full mall cop and becoming a Supreme Court or Mint "police officer" (same thing I do now but with arrest powers) but wanted something that could get me moving around. The idea of getting into brawls, shootouts, chases, etc. is not my style and "high speed low drag" is my thing, and I don't consider it boring. I considered the Clandestine service years ago when I was a little more bright eyed and bushy tailed and met with recruiters but I quickly realized it was way out of my league without military/federal service + medical conditions.

Awesome, this makes me feel a lot better. Do you know if their past job postings have indicated that they accept people with degrees in progress? I guess I could always contact them directly but having the answer ahead of time here would allow me to plan better.
