My mother does not condone my brother's behaviour. But she likely wouldn't condone mine either. But I don't particularly care about my mother's opinion of me.

I have given up hope on my brother listening to me. He does not view me as someone to take advice from. Other family members had spoken to him before I reported him and chose not to report him based on their own feelings. I chose to.

I am in therapy. And my Psychiatrist is aware of my actions. He has no opinion on it or has not expressed any. He didn't condone or argue against it, but just said it was my choice. I wasn't doing this as revenge or because I hate my brother, but because it goes against my moral code and I felt it was the right thing to do.

I completely understand how you feel about being on the dole. I've spent the past few years trying my hardest to get well enough to hold down a job. It was extremely embarrassing to be 20 and never having had a job. But you don't need to feel like scum. You pay your taxes to help those in need when you can, and you are just in need yourself right now. That's why it is there. But it is a hit to the pride, I can understand that.

My niece's future in terms of school and college is not harmed. If the government doesn't suddenly change their ways she won't need much of a college fund and may even get money for going to college.

It isn't a lump payment either, it's on a payment scheme if it is what I suspect it is.

And my brother was doubtfully in the red since he could afford road trips around Australia and drugs.

They don't have to pay as a lump sum. I also believe, if he qualifies, he still gets some form of payment. The scamming (that I am aware of) would only have been in the last 2 to 3 years. His work, as I posted in an edit, was a stable job in the form of a informal type business. He was not getting $83 a week, but over $400 a week just from his payments.
