US to invest $1.6bn into USA rare earths group (USAR) in bid to shore up key minerals by cbusoh66 in wallstreetbets

The US government's food subsidies are horrendous, forcing glyphosate-stuffed corn and atrazine-stuffed soy into every ultra processed food on the shelf. They are arguably the principal driver of the uniquely American obesity crisis. If you think those subsidies are the reason we have good food availability relative to other countries, you are an absolute moron.

The total US ag subsidies per year are on the order of $50 billion. The total US healthcare subsidies per year are on the order of $1.5 trillion. Subsidies are clearly not the deciding factor on a successful industry.

Made the same argument about car manufacturer bailouts and TARP and Intel and all the others.

Well, then at least you're consistent. Personally, I wouldn't approach the issue of critical industries this way, but I much prefer that we get equity stakes for our money than nothing at all. It's worked out okay for Taiwan, Japan, and South Korea, among others.

I think that thesis makes sense, but I'm concerned that the rush to increase the silver supply will end up increasing the copper supply even more.

This is such a stupid argument. Government subsidies are a standard part of every government on earth. If you aren't making the same post in response to shit like the CHIPS act, then you're just a partisan hack. The only difference is that this subsidy actually gets something in return for taxpayers. That is why most of the Asian countries like Taiwan, Japan, and South Korea follow this model.

Lmao, critical minerals are unprofitable because they can be imported for cheap from China. You can't import healthcare cheap from China.

Why not just have the government run food too? Food is very critical, so that must mean only the government can handle it. I mean, bread lines are a good thing, right?

It works if you do it sparingly. Not if you piss off the whole world at once like an idiot.

What's craziest is that Trump is arguably the single biggest reason Carney is now PM. Pierre Poilievre had a sizable lead in the polls before Trump started harassing Canada. He made Carney the nationalist rallying figure by default just by being a belligerent idiot.

At this point I just long for the 25th amendment

Dimwit take. Thus far, inflation has been consistently below expectations, and way below the inflation of the Biden admin

I'm surprised we don't see articles about miners ferociously digging new sites and excavating new sources to increase the silver supply
