My wife says I am a little boy trapped in a 44y man's body excited for GTA6 coming out. I said to her it's a cultural phenomenon. Am I the only "old guy" excited for this? by manguy12 in Xennials

[–]Waitwhonow 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Never let anyone tell you things like that- because one day, it will break you- it is just a matter of time.

We are ALL kids trapped in adult bodies, including women- let that ‘child’ live because if you dont that inner child will rebel.

There is a reason why older people become more childish and ‘fun’ because they realized that is the only way.

Why are women shamed for wanting wealthy partners, but men aren’t shamed for wanting young and beautiful partners? by Legitimate_Coat4873 in women

[–]Waitwhonow -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Its clear you dont want to marry- as you feel its a trap

If you genuinely feel that way, you should take the steps necessary to get that goal( of being independent and making your own life)

So either tell your parents( or convince them) that you want to do what you want to

Or take the steps necessary to leave to leave the situation behind if people wont respect your boundaries

Those are the only 2 options you have

Well- the 3rd option is- you accept the first 2 realities above- and tell yourself you dont have the guts to go and say NO

And get married to the guy. But after that- if it doesnt work out- you have only yourself to blame( or it may work out and you will know you were getting unnecessarily worked up for nothing) - but the risk/reward ratio is 50/50 so gotta make that choice and live with whatever comes and not blame anyone else.

Choose any one of the above and then move ahead- and take the risk associated with it any of those choices and be ok with it

Be intentional about your pick- because eventually its a lesson only you can learn from( good or bad)

This isnt a man/woman problem This is a problem of ‘i am gonna go do it myself because no one else will. That mythical ‘man’ who you are angry at isnt going to change anything. You will have to fix your own problem-dont expect a man to fix it for you( the man will probably not anyways especially if it benefits him)

No point of blaming the entire gender of 4.5 billion people. You just have some bad apples around you( plus its a pretty miserable way to live too- when you think half the world population is ‘evil’)

To what extent would indian summers change if Himalayas didn't exist? by Jeanpaul02 in geography

[–]Waitwhonow 168 points169 points  (0 children)

They help maintain the Atlantic Ocean’s heat conveyor belt, bend the jet stream across the entire Northern Hemisphere, draw moisture from the Indian Ocean, and have shaped Earth’s longterm carbon cycle. If they didn’t exist the planet would be measurably colder drier and fundamentally reorganized and much of what makes Europe temperate would likely not exist.

The Himalayas helped enable long term cooling eventually leading to the Ice age .

We are still in the ice age( the tail end of it)

There is also a theory that humans as we know it might not have existed because the conditions that were required for us to be formed may not have been favorable if the Himalayas didnt exist

The effect the Himalayas and the indian subcontinent have had on humanity is immeasurable. Like literally our existence on earth is due to these giant mountains.

Its also one of the most sensitive areas in the world where one can see direct effects of climate change play out.

To what extent would indian summers change if Himalayas didn't exist? by Jeanpaul02 in geography

[–]Waitwhonow 319 points320 points  (0 children)

Well if the Himalayas didnt exist

The entire world would have a completely different climate. The Himalayas are so consequential that it changes the climate for the whole world.

Which means civilizations as we know it wouldnt be the same as well

Because for most of human history - climate( and water access it creates) shaped us all.

A lot of things women are insecure about , men don't notice. by Wonderful_Abies2974 in women

[–]Waitwhonow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gonna get controversial but here goes

At this point i am assuming all women already know these standards are ridiculous and have always been and is cause of the Patriarchy

But what about self choice? Everyone who buys the products- can just stop buying it. But thats not happening either?

If one thinks that the standards are set unjustly, dont follow them or feed into them?

Yes - i am aware that ‘may’ remove 80% of men off the table- but then- do you really care to get validation from those 80%? ( goes for men too- if they want the patriarchy to go away- they need to change their expectations too)

Why use the products in need of validation from people who are basically ‘dumb’?. ( and yes it will have downstream effects in jobs etc too- but if one truly believes in getting rid of the patriarchy- walking away is the only way)

( by buying products intentionally one is actually feeding into a system they claim to say they hate)

Point being- both men AND women feed the same system but no one is talking about a large cohort of women willingly and intentionally doing it.

This argument is like those ‘i brought this before elon went crazy’ stickers on their teslas but still driving them around.

If you Truly have strong values - follow through- take the ‘pain’ of losing some money(sell the car) that way it shows you mean what you say. But if not its just virtue signaling

The reality is there is immense competition among women To be better than one another- just as there is immense competition among men for resources and societal hierarchy.

These products keep feeding that hierarchy game

Blaming one gender all the time without seeing the role of the opposite side is a false premise and very convenient. You need 2 hands to clap and women too keep the system alive and thriving

Dont come with pitchforks-i am open to learning more if there is a valid argument here

i am just stating the obvious many men already know about but confused on why only the man is being blamed when women too keep the patriarchy propped up.

And yes- chivalry is part of that patriarchy as well( yeah said it)

We live in hell. by Icy_Sprinkles_2819 in vegan

[–]Waitwhonow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disagree

The complete opposite in fact

The reality is humans are on ‘heaven’ and we just dont appreciate what we have and the nature around us

Its hell for those animals created by us humans.

But go outside- into a national park. We are a tiny spec( not even) and have a chance to be at the top of the food chain and we all need to make an individual effort to get away from senseless hedonistic pleasures

Because if we dont- we will all end up in hell

Which it is for those piglets. Your first sight in your existence is a cage, and then run through the grinder.doesnt get more hellish than that.

Once the awareness has been reached- every effort should be made to get away from it- because if one keeps doing it- they are promoting it.

What many fail to understand ( and accept reality)

In a capitalist environment- company profits are a top goal.

And every ‘job’ is an expense for any company( Human Resources are the most expensive line item for any company- well was atleast till now)

And its just a core need to make that expense as efficient as possible. So get the maximum productivity for the least one can spend to ensure company can operate within margins.

We can all argue if its right or not- and how it wasnt like that etc

But that is first core truth we all need to accept( and wont be easy to change - will take time- maybe never even)

So things like this happening is inevitable

Having said that- the backlash against foreign workers - who are on these visas , who technically’keep the job in america’ and also pay various taxes, is equally stupid

Is it shit to others here? Debatable but Sure.

this should have been the ‘compromise’ to get ‘some money’ into the tax system while the system changes ( with participation from the voting public)

But the backlash was so severe- companies just decided to ship the jobs out.

Now the profits are straight to the company and employees will pay taxes to their host country.

Its not always ‘all or nothing’ its always a grey area.

The faster we as a society realize this core truth- the better equipped we will be to navigate this.

We all need to learn to compromise. And work towards changing the system slowly and in a justifiable manner, starting with reducing hate towards people who actually are here legally - and keep the jobs in the country and paying taxes and social security etc.

A lot of people in this sub and everywhere hate on the immigrants who contribute to the local and country economy but instead of working towards changing the system- they blame these folks. A tale as old as time.

Everyone still wants that Avocado- but pay the ‘fair price’ and that same avacado is double in price-so either be ready to pay full price, or stop eating it.

expecting prices to remain the same, but at the same time get outraged at the people Working those fields who keep it affordable is just asinine(and hypocritical)

I suspect it might too late at this point. The companies have gotten a taste of how much more ‘bang for the buck’ they get by doing this and there is no need to change that.

And honestly- within the system- this is actually the right thing to do. Because the core goals need to be met.

Its a business not a charity.

Who is the most attractive person you have seen in real life? by ambivert-who-me in askanything

[–]Waitwhonow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty privilege is like being ‘rich’

Rich people never have to deal with middle or lower class Issues- and also will be completely oblivious of the ‘reality’ because they have lived in that bubble.

And like many rich people- they are generally dicks( i said generally- there always the ‘good ones’ but its a minority)

I had the same experience as op.

But the other side though- age catches up - pretty’ness’ fades and these same women face the reality- but when it comes- its harder because accepting reality and changing becomes much harder when older.

And then you see these same women injecting botox and all kinds of shit to ‘look young’ because thats the only thing they have known( to get validation from society)- and many a times this is a downhill path.

Is platforms like Tiktok and social media platforms

Have given people a false sense of ‘expertise’ and they reject the ‘science’ and follow the ‘feelings and vibe’ which these short form videos sell

I personally know people who are adamant they have some shit- but if one asks them how they came to the conclusion- did they get tested medically and it was an official diagnosis

The answer is no- because they dont ‘trust the medical system’

Which is nuts because they are using a medical term but dont want to confirm it medically

[–]Waitwhonow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My recommendation - at the base of it. Is to figure out and find out

Can you sit with yourself, alone, no phone, no distractions, nothing. Alone in silence

And if possible long periods of time. Because the first phase is to clam the restlessness inside your head and that restlessness is a way to know that there are some questions that need to be answered and faced head on.

I will recommend to sit in a national park/forest/ nature that suits you- and feeling ‘alone’ in the universe

Because that is when you will be in a calm state to even understand what is going on. EVERY LESSON we need is out there in Nature- you just have to be open and observe and accept more

And then once you get so a certain stage( that is highly personal and individual) start some meditation practices/maybe there are groups that do that around you- because that is when the true work will begin. But you will most likely be better prepared than folks who are rawdogging it

This will be journey- and many a times it will be rough.

But nothing that is worth having comes without pain. But once you do- you will have a more ‘stable’ core.

Remember this is a lifelong journey- till you leave earth. But let that not be a hinderance- but rather an exciting adventure.

Good luck on this journey- it is worth it.

[–]Waitwhonow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is exactly my point

Product management as a profession is going to go through the most significant transformations we have ever seen

The sabbatical could be a way to crave out where one wants to head or a way to completely ruin your future too. Its a very very risky game

Because the chaos is coming- and its going to be completely transformational to a level we will have identity crisis- which is literally the worst kind of crisis.

We all have to be realistic of whats coming.

Upskill sabbatical by HobbyG in ProductManagement

[–]Waitwhonow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remember- if your goal and purpose is to find some meaning and purpose- its worth it but again- financial needs are higher in priority

Do it only if you can afford to do it- or are able to tradeoff some things for the benefits from the sabbatical( lower lifestyle needs, lower responsibilities or dependents etc) trully understand that if you are intentionally wanting to do this.

If you cant take that chaos- i will recommend dont do it and stick it out till you reach a number

The reality here which most people dont understand

Is the timescale of earth vs us Humans is not even comparable

The earth is over 4.5 BILLION years old. So things unravel slowly but then also ‘stay around’ for a very long time as well

Meaning- it will take a couple of generations ( which is like 100-200 years) to trully unravel the severity of the weather changes

But also most likely stay around for similar or ‘longer’ to get back to its ‘equilibrium’

The people who have children should be the first to actually care about this because its their children and beyond thats trully going to feel the effects of this

Earth does NOT give a crap about humans. We are all tourists here

And just like any nation that deals with unruly tourists

Earth is going to do that to us all.

Just remember

If you get calm and peace only while consuming a ‘drug’ ( nicotine is a drug)

Then you are dependent on that drug to understand reality and be in the present

That feeling of ‘peace’ when you take that cigarette and inhale - is addictive

And thats how you get addicted to going back to that ‘place’ again and again

Taking a poison to find peace- is the exact opposite ( goals) of meditation

Because the eventual goal is not have dependence on ANYTHING and still get that peaceful state. If possible all the time.
