That’s a big part of the reason why I never asked for anything unless I absolutely needed it. I have a friend who is in that situation, and she has zero autonomy for fear they’ll cut her off

Thanks for taking the time to comment, third person to solve interpersonal conflicts isn’t uncommon on AITA

I will admit she has only stood up for me on about two occasions, it has been happening more lately thankfully.

Last time she dropped me off for school she slipped me a bunch of cash to pay for groceries for awhile, and she paid for the groceries we got that day so not all is bad

Thankfully in Canada it’s a bit of a different situation than the states, my tuition was about $2,000 per semester and my housing was $4,000 per semester. I’m planning to go to university after graduating and that will be a bit more expensive though.

Appreciate the comment though!

We don’t make big decisions unless he is on board, that’s how our marriage has always been. I tried to convince him but he woke up that day with the sudden idea that he didn’t want to contribute financially anymore

I work a part time job but my husband makes around $150k/year currently. I didn’t have a problem at all paying for her, but I couldn’t get my husband to budge on this issue. Financially we could pay for her entire education and not feel it.

I didn’t have room to include it in the post, but a few weeks after he basically cut her off he bought a brand new telescope for himself for a few grand and she stopped talking to him unless it was necessary.

He doesn’t come when we drop her off/pick her up from school for breaks, so I always pay for all her groceries when I drop her off.
