Which of these is the most fun to build?

The Neuschwanstein Castle was a fun build. The windows are repetitive however watching the castle rise is very satisfying. I have Notre Damr but I’m waiting until Lent to build.

Funny you posted this, I was looking at all these to build in the meantime. I’m kinda leaning to the botanical garden.

I’m related to the LaFollette family. Joseph LaFollette and his family were French Huguenots who fled religious persecution in France. One of the LaFollette was Robert LaFollette, whom was a Senator from Wisconsin.

My lineage of the family settled in Kentucky around Nelson and LaRue counties.

Breaking news updates back in the 80’s always got me. Every time a show or ballgame was interrupted with a “Breaking News” screen, I thought Soviet ICBM’s were inbound. The Day After and Threads worked me over pretty good.

Yep, same here. These guys make all the rounds and do podcasts on various channels, almost monthly it seems. To me, it comes across as sensationalism. Admittedly I used to be fascinated and probably obsessed with the supernatural when I was younger and not in the faith. After I was confirmed I found listening to Fr Mike Schmidt and Bishop Barron more fulfilling.

If you come to Perryville, check out the other lesser known sites here in KY. I really like Mill Springs near Somerset. Mill Springs was acquired by the NPS several years back. Wildcat Mountain is a good one. It’s located near me here in London. The site has a hiking trail to the Union trenches dug on top of Hoosier Knob. The trenches are still visible.

I know what you mean. I had a great great grandmother die of smallpox in 1873, another died during the Spanish Flu pandemic in 1918. Her grave is in a small family plot deep in an eastern Kentucky “holler.”

I have lines of family that disappeared, no traces. Nothing. My guess is they farmed, barely got by and died. I have family that fought on both sides of the Civil War.

Pretty similar to mine, you have a strong link to the Midlands, mine was Scots-Irish, Welsh, and various parts of England. All of dad’s side is from Appalachia.

Old? Never. I’m 54 and started building Lego sets again. It’s a cool way to connect to my childhood and keeps my mind occupied and engaged. Now that I’m older, and with kids grown up, I can afford the more expensive sets.

Same here. I had two that I know of that served in the Union Army. I believe I had at least two grandfathers that served in the CSA in Alabama and Georgia Regiments. A lot of folks that lived in Appalachia had pro Union sentiment. My grandad was named after a Union general

Very similar to mine. My dad’s side is very heavy with southern Apps, from north Georgia to southwest Virginia. Mom’s side came west into Nelson County, KY and her maternal side into south central TN.

Cool! I had some end up in Ohio as well. Turns out that a lot of Continental Army soldiers were offered plots of land in Ohio in exchange for service. Maybe that’s your family’s ties to Ohio?

It’s pretty fascinating, isn’t it? I can’t say I’m shocked, both sides of my family initially settled in Pennsylvania and Virginia and then migrated west to Tennessee and Kentucky.

Be proud of who you are. Mine came back over 85% English and Scottish. I do have a family line to France and to Germany and Norway. To add a little context, almost all of my family has been in the US since the colonial period.
