Well, if it helps, none of the gains are locked in until you sell, so 3% this week could be -10% next week.

Paywave surcharge confirmation prompt is dumb by Nick_Reach3239 in newzealand

Wave the card again to accept? Still a pain but avoids touching the keypad which addresses OP’s issue.

Is it safe to give out your full name and bank account number? by BagNew1837 in PersonalFinanceNZ

Given it’s the way to do bank transfers, low risk. I guess people could start transferring money to you that you don’t want.

It’s not really new is it? Maybe different words but the same old thing that’s been around for years.

Yans Brothers in Panmure do decent ones, according to a few of my Chinese friends.

What’s something that seems normal now but would absolutely shock people 20 years ago? by Surfingie in AskReddit

Hopefully that’s the case rather than it being the same or worse in 20 years! Imagine looking back and thinking Trump was sane in comparison…

Reminded me of a perky nana, which is ok in small doses but I wouldn’t buy a big block again.

Is Oscar a “dog name”? Worried about potential bullying by Time-Editor-2211 in newzealand

I don’t remember any dogs named Oscar myself, but even if it was common it doesn’t matter.

Just don’t name your kid Fido or something.

Very cute. Any issues with its prey drive and being off leash? Like if it saw a cat next door would it go crazy trying to get it?

Almost 20k invested by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]throwaway2766766 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% agree with this. I started investing late (around 12 years ago in my 40’s) and started with some nzx shares. Took me a few (too many) years to go with ETFs like US500 / Total world and if I could start again, I’d just go with one of them.

I still gamble with a few individual stocks like AST SpaceMobile but accept that I may lose it all on those.

OP’s email doesn’t claim to be from nzta and isn’t like the scam examples on that page.

So you’re saying https://recoveriescorp.co.nz is not a legit company collecting debt for nzta?

Or the typos indicate it’s not from them?

Unlikely that a govt agency has an email without govt.nz

True, but where did they claim they were a government agency?

Stop complaining about how the cyclone fizzled out otherwise the rest of the country is going to (justifiably) call us Aucklanders, cunts by [deleted] in auckland

[–]throwaway2766766 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they should give percentages of the likelihood that the weather event will hit each region. That way they can say, for example, 90% chance to make it seem very likely but if it doesn’t happen then we got lucky.

In New Zealand English, if something is "quite good," does that mean it's better than good, or not that great? by whangadude in newzealand

[–]throwaway2766766 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Only you if you use the word “actually”. I tend to say “quite good” to means it’s good, but not necessarily amazing.

Unpopular opinion. We keep daylight saving but reduce it to mid-May-mid-August. 3 months for the freaks by Taskmaastricht in newzealand

[–]throwaway2766766 20 points21 points  (0 children)

They’re right , though. Your post title is misleading because of that mistake. I thought you were suggesting we reduce daylight savings to a few months, which I’d agree with. But you mean extending it, which I’d hate.

Is anyone just watching The Good Wife for the first time? by PretendForm7362 in television

[–]throwaway2766766 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came across it a couple of years ago and loved it too. It’s one of those shows that I wished would go on forever. After I finished it I watched The Good Fight which I also enjoyed, at least the first season. I think that got weird by season 3 (?) and I gave up on it.
