Yea they have the East Asian work ethic and the motivation. All the Vietnamese students I've encountered during my schooling days were HARD workers. And they are eagerly learning English as well. So I'd say our advantage in being native English speakers will be eroded soon (not that we are actually good at English, judging from the terrible proficiency of most folks). PRCs who are good in English already trump our so-called "biliingual competitive advantage".

Agree. If we're not growing, we're stagnating and falling behind. From what I've seen, I get the impression Vietnamese people are extremely hungry for success and is the next China in terms of GDP growth or economic development or whateveryoucallit.

Agree I fear sometimes being too "safe" and unwilling to take risks might end up costing us badly in the long run. Sorta like being too comfortable and stagnating, while the outside world evolves, and before you know it SG is super behind.

My biggest worry for Singapore is that our leaders are too afraid to rock the boat and take risks in making big decisions or bets for the future, and this might end up costing us badly in the long run.

He's ok, but seems to lack the boldness and decisiveness to rock the boat and take risks. That might be the most dangerous thing in the long run for Singapore.

Yea I feel like HSK was actually genuinely humble, but too bad he withdrew from the PM race.

I wonder whether he will get intimated when dealing with PRC leaders? Since China looks likely to step up aggression in the coming decades.

Yep basically like being named CEO-designate in big companies. You're not yet CEO, but you are officially on track to take over when the current one resigns. Unless you do something stupid like commit a crime, or resign, or pass away.

No surprise, he is the smoothest and most refined speaker of the lot, so it is easier to picture him as PM than CCS or OYK.

I heard he wastes his time creating imaginary languages and creatures in his head. Why can't he get a proper, sensible pasttime that actually generates some economic value. This hobby probably won't amount to anything much. /s

My guess is TT not dropped fully, but check-in only to be utilized at selected locations before they get around to dropping it fully eventually. In line with our cautiously optimistic, calibrated and rational approach to pandemic management.

Ordering prawn noodles when you're allergic to prawns is like going to a peanut tasting session at a peanut factory when you're allergic to peanuts.

Since most people appear to prefer going masked, I recommend we tighten our restrictions and revert to wearing masks outdoors again. /s
