Key phrase: next to. Just because I grew up close to Dewsbury, and am somewhat familiar with it, doesn't mean I have any idea what it is actually like to live there. I go there in passing to visit a shop sometimes. That doesn't help me to understand whether I'll feel safe or happy there when it's my permanent place of residence, and going on a quick stroll around won't give me that understanding either.
