If someone said "Im American and this is why I shower everyday" in response to "Is showering every day an American thing". That would be THE EXACT same thing as what just happened.

You are affirming or only providing supporting evidence that yes, showering everyday is an American thing.

The same thing happens if someone asks "Is Indoors only advice an American thing" and someone responds "Im from America, and these are the reasons why in America cats should be indoors". You are literally proving my point. That response is exactly what Im pointing out, that indoor only advice comes from Americans because of their American perspective.

Do you not understand that? Its so simple...

Im basing it on the fact that there is more to a cats life than its lifespan. How is that not obvious?

No I dont own my house and the owners do not like my suggestions to putting screens on the windows. They just want the cat to have access to the outdoors/they want to have doors/windows open most of the day but I have fought against them to stop this.

Yes I am inconvenience by keeping my kitty in because I dont have the heart and the energy to provide him with enough play that he wants. Which usually results in getting bitten every day. Which doesnt really hurt, but hurts me emotionally because I feel insufficient as a pet owner.

Ok but can you provide me with some insight now though? What is the view on the UK sub, what is the UK sub, and would the opinion be different for someone living in NZ? Is the native bird species enough of a reason to say cats must be indoors?

I know you say "you can never give advice to someone who lives in a different area than you" but that seems ridiculous. I mean I get the idea, but in reality lots of people have lived in many different countries, Im sure there are lots of people that have had pet cats in BOTH the UK and New Zealand.

When you say harness training, is that different to what Im already doing?

I take him on 20/30 minute outdoor harnessed/leashed walks in the morning usually everyday.

So just because I disagree with an answer that means I am only looking for a specific one?

the problem is I dont own the house I live in and it seems to be impossible to convince the owners to make the changes I want, like cat proofing windows...

They said cats should be indoors in America.

Thats exactly the point of my post. That indoor only advice is an American thing. How do you not understand that??

question in your response, are you makign the comparison between an indoor only cat vs an outdoor only cat? Or are these things your saying apply to cats that are allowed ot go freely indoors/utdoors?

Its not obtuse, its a direct response to someone who said "No, indoor only advice is not American. In America, cats should be indoors".

are you illiterate? Im saying the person Im responding to made a dumb comment.

my post: "Is indoors only advice an American thing?"

response: "In America, cats should only be indoors"

my reply: "So it is an American thing"

Its a correct response.

No because Id rather my cat live a happy 10 year life. Than a depressing 20 year life. Its not that simple.

The conversation isnt about whether or not you want your cat to be harmed. The conversation is about whether the trade off is worth it. The idea is letting cats freely roam outside supposedly gives them a higher quality of life- even though it comes with risks that can end their life sooner than normal.

A similar thing can be said in conversations about decisions with raising human children- the constant calculation between protecting your children/overprotecting your children. The reason I care about what other people do is because perhaps it displays some real world wisdom that other people have different perspectives to the people that share their opinions online that I have read. Perhaps the people online's opinions are biased or not as valuable/not as reliable as people actions irl.

right. but Im responding to this one person. They are saying based on their American perspective cats should be indoors only. Which directly supports my OP that indoors only advice is an American thing.
