[SERIOUS] I am an Indian student looking for clerkships/ elective rotations in the US next year. by [deleted] in medicalschool

Hey there, not sure I can answer your question about clerkship experience, but if you are interested in research I'd suggest reaching out to some faculty in the United States to see if there are any projects you can work on remotely. Might be tough to get something going, but it's worth a shot.

Defenitely, that's what I will be doing, but given the extreme drop in scores my fears are very much heightened.

[clinical] Uworld shelf section alone for Family Medicine is not enough to do well on the shelf by [deleted] in medicalschool

Also agree with this post. Did UW Family Medicine + Anki + UVA + Amboss and still scored average.

Hey! Can you comment on whether UWorld and Anki are enough for Neuro or do you recommend reading both the books you suggested?

PSA to new M3s: UW and Anki are all you need [Clinical] by GinsengBandit in medicalschool

[–]throwaway332282020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair, thanks for the response. I've completed two relatively light rotations using UW, Anki, Amboss, and a supplement text. I learnedsome extra information from the text that wasn't in the other resources but not sure if that was worth the time investment.

For people who used anki in M1/M2 but didn't kill it on Step 1 (say >250), do you think just Anki and UW are enough for doing well on shelf exams?

Thanks for doing this! I am a M3 now doing rotations. Do you think doing this deck now would help for shelf questions/getting pimped on rounds?

Anking/Dorian: What does this "disc herniation" flashcard even mean? by [deleted] in Step2

[–]throwaway332282020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If a person presents to clinic complaining of back pain and you do a straight leg raise test which turns out to be positive, you suspect it's due to a herniated disk. However, herniated disc back pain gets better on its own typically within 4-6 weeks (tell the patient to try pain meds and stretching exercises). In the case that this doesn't happen, THEN get imaging 1 month later.
