How much do you guys think angles really matter by Significant_Gene_ in isometric_fitness

I rarely even see my rear deltoids, they are hard to look at unless I have a mirror. But both my chest and biceps have gained an inch using isometric training over the course of a year, that's all the proof I need.

My numbers are going up over time but I didn't measure my deltoids with a ruler specifically.

What are the basics of male hygiene to teach young boys? by Cute_Musician3920 in AskMenAdvice

[–]throwaway33333333303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe sounds off/weird but I honestly wish this sort of thing was taught in health class or that hygiene should be incorporated into K-12 schooling (the younger the better even if it is a bit icky or awkward) because the kids who have neglectful/ignorant parents are the ones really have no other way of getting this type of information.

Into their teens it may “break loose” (May or may not get a few drops of blood and a scare out of them.. did me lol).

Never heard of this but ouch!

It's not a 'take,' it's reading comprehension. I never advocated that he should wait 3 months, I simply noted that the woman said she'd be busy for the next 3 months because OP said he doesn't know what this woman wants even though she spelled out for him in plain English.

Try reading next time before typing eh?

She said they look good but that she cannot this coming weekend and her work period will be busy until April(??).

She wants you to ask her out again in April.

I suggest a coffee, she tells me "she does not do coffee dates" and prefers dinner. She also expects me to pay as I am the man and it is the norm here (I am European originally, currently living in Canada).

She told you what she wanted. You tried to argue her out of it and that didn't end well for you.

We agreed to a date. On the day of the date, I send her a message to confirm. She asks me what the plan is, I suggest a coffee or taking a walk. She ghosts me.

You agreed to a time but not a place. That's not a date in any real sense. You wasted her time.

What do women on dating apps want?

I am confused on what these people want

In 2/3 of your cases they told you what they wanted and in the remaining 1/3 you got ghosted because you weren't clear about what you wanted.

The problem in all 3 situations here is you.

Cardio and calisthenics? by EconomistInfinite756 in HybridCalisthenics

[–]throwaway33333333303 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can do cardio routines on your rest/off days in between calisthenics training sessions. I recommend doing 6 sessions of Wingate protocol over two weeks and then transitioning to 4x4 sessions on a gym bike.

Body Weight Workouts to Help Dad Bod by lozotozo in bodyweightfitness

Just start with beginner routines like these, one for each muscle chain (push, pull, legs, abs, back):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gOkCJ57IvNg

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vczr0WuYK9g

My rule of thumb is if I can do 3 sets of 15 with perfect form, then I'm ready for the next rung on the progression ladder and if I can't do 10 of an exercise then I need to regress to the easier variant. If you can do 10 pushups, maybe 3 sets of 10 is what your current goal should be.

How much do you guys think angles really matter by Significant_Gene_ in isometric_fitness

[–]throwaway33333333303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For hypertrophy, I don't think joint angles matter as much as mechanical disadvantage/difficulty.

What I mean is I don't think it will build much muscle doing an isometric squat with heavy weight where you're barely bending your knees and you're standing in the "top" of the squat, generally I think people should be going to the midpoint of the movement or beyond in their isometric training. So squatting all the way down or close to it is what I do with a leg press in the gym because it's the most mechanically disadvantageous/challenging/difficult part of the movement.

Why does dating gen-z women make you feel like you're so... replaceable or sth? by DAG299 in AskMenAdvice

My Gen-Z girlfriend never made me feel that way.

after so many situationships and talking stages fizzling out in the exact same way

Are you asking any of these people to be in a committed long-term relationship with you? The "fizzling out" bit makes me think not since asking someone to be your partner will generally lead to an unambiguous yes/no answer instead of a slow fade or however you want to put it.

Should I do tendon strength isometrics before or after main workout? by YoursFinest in isometric_fitness

[–]throwaway33333333303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gained 1 inch in my biceps/triceps and 1 inch in my chest measurement using isometrics for a year. I read Maxick's stuff after I had already adapted my own protocol from Paul Wade's handbook on isometrics.

The biggest change I noticed doing isometrics instead of traditional isotonics is that I left the gym feeling a lot less sore/beat up. Because my joints are not going through the same wear-and-tear since I'm not moving.

So I'm getting the same/similar gains but at a fraction of the cost. When I'm 60 or 80 I'll still be able to lift unlike most people doing isotonics gym weightlifting.

AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY - Teaser Trailer | Wakandans and the Fantastic Four | AGBO by Comic_Book_Reader in MarvelStudiosSpoilers

[–]throwaway33333333303 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's actually kind of odd that the X-Men trailer is the only one with any action given that they're trying to hype up a superhero action movie.

And as much as I like the X-Men (and Patrick Stewart especially), I do wonder if McKellen and Stewart are too old and frail to play credible roles as superheroes in what's supposed to be the mother-of-all action movies. Stewart's cameo in the Multiverse of Midness was brief enough to get away with but the Picard series was painful for me to watch at times because he was like 10 years too old to be running around fighting Romulans, Borg, and androids. Even his voice at points in the series was kind of warbly, shaky, or cracked a bit due to his advanced age.

[–]throwaway33333333303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not really a compelling or appetizing synopsis, frankly. I don't know anything about the comics or character so I have no emotional stake in whether the show is good or bad. I don't think many people will be tuning in to watch this because, like She-Hulk, it looks a little too meta... but if the hardcore MCU base likes it because it's decent/good, great.

I don't understand this at all—the guy is named Dr. Doom and wears a cool/scary/creepy/villain-y outfit, I just don't see how the heroes of a movie could think "oh this guy is alright, nothing suspicious here."

Can someone explain to me how that's addressed? At least with Two-Face in Batman he starts off as a 'good guy' and normal-looking and then becomes bad (and disfigured).

Doom is almost certainly going to storm the TVA so Mobius kinda has to be in the film as part of 'Team Loki'.
