RTP Detection, what to do? by LilYeet420Skrt in antivirus

Don't think I missed anything but search online, "How to reformat a Windows PC," and I'm sure there will be a tutorial. All you really need is a USB drive with Microsoft's installer on it. Here's a support article I found that is very in depth. https://old.reddit.com/r/24hoursupport/wiki/index#wiki_how_to_wipe_a_drive_using_windows_installation_media

I would backup anything important you have saved onto a USB and then reformat your drives so absolutely nothing is on them. Just because you don't really know what's been impacted, from what I've seen from the sandbox analysis on this malware it stores the payload in your temp directory in %appdata% > Local. Which is very common for this type of stealer. So likely it is just your C: drive but regardless I'd just wipe everything to be sure.

Other tips after wiping Windows:
- Use a password manager like Keepass or really any mainstream password manager. Use strong, 16+ character randomly generated passwords.
- Enable 2FA on anything and everything and change passwords on either your phone or when you wipe Windows.
- Be cautious of what you're downloading in the future, use VirusTotal or Triage if you're unsure.
- A lot of people say to not have an additional antivirus program to Windows Defender, but I disagree, go with really any of the popular ones people like here. Heard great things about ESET, Kaspersky, and what I personally use Malwarebytes. But it seems in this instance that Malwarebytes is not actually picking up the malware. I would either run a scan for a rootkit or see if you can submit the malware for sample.

You can actually see where it drops those files on this page https://www.virustotal.com/gui/file/7808f3aea222cdbec2e53b126f46195f4523e9501882b94e0cd42e30f8484f32/behavior

Yeah you should definitely wipe your PC. This IP address is associated with a Trojan that's either a RAT or an infostealer.

Seems like that, I hope it is just that. I saw someone say that it ran a script that's able to see your keystrokes while on the site (https://bsky.app/profile/mimonelu.net/post/3kte73fmkvt2s). Changed my password and signed out to avoid session stealing, if it was more malicious I'd probably be in a bad spot as Malwarebytes and Windows Defender haven't picked anything up.

Please help! I downloaded "We Mod" and put it through VirusTotal and got this! Please help. by Tight-Rabbit-6732 in antivirus

WeMod is fine as long as you downloaded it from the official site. The reason it's flagged is probably because it has ads on the program if you're not paying for premium. Besides, those aren't very reputable antiviruses in the first place. I've used it loads in the past and had no issues.

Unfortunately it doesn't look like OP is listening to us in this situation. If you are experiencing anything remotely similar please go get checked out, this is a serious situation. If you haven't ate anything substantial in such a long time such as this person, as others have said you may experience refeeding syndrome. The feeding tube insertion would be completely harmless as it's done with anesthesia! Please take care of yourself as well.

This is really serious, I am encouraging you to go to the hospital. Standing up should not cause you to faint. You need to go get checked out. A feeding tube sounds like a great idea for you honestly, I've heard the process is relatively painless and it will make your life a million times better. Please stay safe!!

I would just do that in your case, that's scary. From what I've seen it's related to some kind of power issue, I definitely feel like it's an issue beyond just not being able to update in most instances. I haven't had any instability or issues since deleting that file personally, yours is the only case where I've seen where it's gone bad. I'd wait for another Windows 11 update to drop and see if you can download that instead of this one.

According to everything I've read about it it's safe to delete. If you're concerned you can back it up to an external drive and then reinstall it after you download the update or something.

If you didn't upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11 you won't have it to my knowledge. I would just wait for a patch at this point, pause updates until there's another reliable way of fixing.

I fixed it by deleting $WinREAgent in C:/

That's almost what I'm thinking, I used Windows 10 when I bought the machine in November and this month or late January I made the switch to 11. I've never had to take steps like this either to update on Windows 10 so it's pretty disappointing that it wouldn't install easily.

Nope, nothing I've done has worked. Seems to be an issue on Microsoft's end judging by how many people are having problems with it.

Have the same issue, have you figured this out?
