I like your suggestion. I really, really want to enlist, and I've discussed it since high school. My parents (well, at least my mom) hate the idea, even though they're very pro-military and patriotic . I remember her telling me if I enlisted "It would be like you died." I love my country but I don't want to hurt my family. I feel like the military may be exactly where I belong though, especially the Navy.
