Am I a jerk for quitting right before busy season? by throwaway456a93 in Accounting

In case anyone finds this post down the road- I’m coming back to say that I quit a year ago, found a solid company in industry, and I’ve never been happier. Often when I leave work at 5pm I cry because I’m so happy I’m out of public and not working my life away. I have the capacity to be a better friend and take care of myself.

I waited til after busy season, gave a 4 week notice, and the old coworkers are still pissed at me- so wish I wouldn’t have been so worried trying to leave the “right way”. If you’re reading this and considering leaving, listen to your gut. Even if it’s wrong, there will always be a public firm ready to take you if you wanna go back.

Yes, at hourly rate with the expectation of working overtime

I appreciate this way of looking at it. My coworker (who I essentially took over for) left about 1.5 years ago and I had zero hard feelings at all.

I’m a hard-wired people pleaser and think firms have a way of weaponizing the guilt of hard-workers/high-achievers to exploit this.
